High mileage R's?
I am considering picking a R up as a daily. Most of the ones I have seen in my price range (10-12k) have 80k+ miles. How many miles can be expected? I understand that most of these cars are driven as they are meant to be. Also, any idea on engine rebuild costs? Thanks.

Re: High mileage R's?
I'm one of the few lucky ones. Not only daily driving an R for 2 years, but parked outside in public parking areas in Southern Cali, Long Beach to be exact. Only because I had those government issued wheel boot, 3 different type of double hook clubs, car bar, and auto lock, not to mention a stealth install from desmon. lol, anywho, I sold the car @ 100,000 and it was still going strong.

I have a friend who owns a 96 spec jdm itr the mileage is already 155415 kms and it still runs strong/great. With proper maintenance (change oil, change tranny oil and spark pugs) and no serious abuse (he does some spirited driving every weekend) i believe it can still go a long way.

150k-175k seems to be an average life for the engine. even then it's normally just a set of piston rings, exhaust valves & guides needed. the intakes never seem to get hammered as badly in the couple 18c's i've seen. the 10-12k R's aren't a bad deal since you have resale and also would spend nearly that much converting an LS or GSR to ITR spec and it would be worth less to sell again.

130K+ miles over here. a rebuild will cost you upwards of at least $600 - it all comes down to what exactly you're replacing, what kind of parts you're replacing with, and where you source your parts. my WAG for OEM parts (from my memory when I rebuilt my gsr) worked out to somewhere around $750 for all OEM parts? GL.

I've had my ITR since well, '97 and with 95k on the clock it's still going strong. Just had it serviced and they couldn't find anything wrong with the car so typical Honda quality and durability.

I think people forget they are hondas you could literally drive them into the ground with a million miles if you wanted to, rebuilds are don't cost **** anyway.

High mileage isn't anything to be real concerned about. Any car with higher mileage will require additional maintenance, but it's not going to cost you tons of money to keep a high mileage integra on the road.
As for DDing them, a buddy of mine bought his in 97, with 140k on it, DD'd for 135k, tracked for 5k, back to a DD now. Parked at his school, his work, malls, airports, movie theaters, etc.

It all depends on where you live. I've parked mine everywhere. I DD my 98 and my boosted 97 sits a lot. The 98 has 144k and the 97 has 26k. I have had no problems with DDing it other than some a$$hole hitting my rear bumper(and not leaving any info) while parking in the city one evening.
