Default Father/Son -Resurrecting a Type R-

NOTE: All images that are links, are extremely large. Sorry about that. I feel they are too big to actually show them as images on this page, as they will probably lag most computers. Instead, I linked them separately so you can view them alone.

Alright, first let me introduce myself. I'm a 16 year old resident of Canada. (BC specifically, which means crappy driving laws... which means I must be 17 to legally drive alone.)

I have already posted this on an alternate Integra forum, but I thought Honda-Tech might be interested as well.

In mid-June, I purchased my first vehicle with ideas in which I would pamper the car until I hit 17. The car I got is amazing in my eyes... A 1994 Prelude SR-V (Vtec!). The car is beautiful, and the previous owner was awesome enough to include all the stock options that he upgraded. (Suspension, air filter, ect.) The car was a great deal, and I had earned enough money through my first job; a local bus-boy clearing tables at a high-class restaurant. The money was good enough to save up to pay for the car.

Since then, I've waxed, polished, and spoiled it...
Then something came up.

Before I continue, let me explain something first. I race cars as a hobby at my local track. My sponsor is an Auto-wrecker, which has access to ICBC Salvage. ICBC is the provincial insurance company that everyone must go through to insure their cars. If your car gets damage over $2000 (est.), then the owner can make a decision to keep and repair the car, or give the car to ICBC and the owner can get money for it (or at least something like that). Anyhow, my sponsor has access to all vehicles that have been in a recent accident in the province. It's a silent bid type deal, where cars get auctioned and sold to the highest bidder. Each bidder cannot see any other bids but theirs until the Auction date rolls around.

On Friday, we noticed a 2001 Integra going through. The description didn't note that it was a Type R, however we noted the rather obvious Type R decal on the side. It had red stiching, and some other Type R exclusive goodies. Unfortunately, the engine bay never gets photographed, so we were unsure if it had a ITR engine.

Pictures from the auction.

The car looked absolutely mint, except for the obvious rear-end damage. (We have a 98 ls teg sitting around with a perfect rear end, so we can swap all the parts) The serial number was listed, so I researched how to decode an ITR serial number, and it proved to be a true Type R.. however we didn't know if the motor was still the B18C5. We came to a conclusion to make a reasonable bid on the car. We weren't too worried on losing the auction, but it would be a bonus if we won. The original plans were to fix up the damage, clean the car up, and sell it for a pretty penny.

Wednesday was the end of the bidding. Needless to say, we won. We bought an Integra Type R for a pretty good price and project without a clue on the mechanical condition of the car. (It couldn't be that bad, right? Vancouver Aircare FTW)

Earlier this morning, the car arrived after being transported by barge to the Island. Here's how it sat when it first arrived.
(Apologize for the fisheye lens, the only camera I had was my GoPro at the time.)

I spent the better part of the day cleaning. The exterior was filthy, and the interior wasn't too great either. Fortunately, the seats are in good condition. The only issue, really, is filth.

After some elbow-grease..

So now I've been torn between the 2 cars. Within the last day, I have grown attached to the Integra.. however the 'lude has Cruise Control, and AC (both of those options aren't in the ITR). I am strongly leaning towards the Prelude, as I will be driving quite a bit on the highway in summer, and I will need the AC. That, and insurance would be pretty damn high, a 17 year old kid with a Type R? The Integra just isn't as practical as I hoped, yet it's still an option.

Even if I don't keep the Teg, I thought it would be sort of cool to log the progress and show others what we've done to fix it up to a top-notch ITR.

------

Have yet to straighten out the rear of the R, but I got down to work on the front of the GSR.

Here's some pics to keep you guys interested.

Came with a custom sub/amp area. Sort of creative. We will rebuild it all because the wood they used is shattered from the collision.

So I suppose most of you are now curious about the GSR. The GSR was purchased through the ICBC auction (much like the Type R) for $1500 The damage was easily repairable. The only problem with it, is the title is dismantle only. (Meaning it cannot be put on the road again)
We bought the car to make into a purpose built racecar, for oval track racing. (2012 season)

Anyway, here's some pics of how we originally got the car. Whoever owned it before us obviously took awesome care of the car, it everything looks like it just came off the assembly line. (except the damage haha)

------

We got the date for when we will be able to bring the Type R to the frame-puller. There's only 2 possible locations on the island, and it just so happens that we are good friends with one of them.
With that said, it was time to get cracking and get the damn thing ready after being delayed for 2 months.

We started to strip the parts car down, to get the hatch and rear everything off it. (Pretty much)

https://i.imgur.com/f6UE3.jpg

...and we managed to bend the damaged hatch a little to make it a little more practical for rain purposes during the day.

...got the hatch off the ITR.

Just a quick browse of their shop, he showed us his new Paint booth with a genious ventilation system. He claims it took them 2 weeks from start to finish. Pretty damn cool, and it has an Integra in it already to top it off!

Regrettably, this is the only photo I got of the chains hooked up to the car, and pulling it out. We got the rear of the car down to about 1/32 of an inch out. Pretty damn good.

That's all we got done at the frame shop, I will update again when we work on it next. (Most likely sometime this week, but I cannot say for certain yet. We sort of have our hands full with an RSX-S that my sister bought off ICBC that needs some TLC )

-----

Sorry for lack of updates. Things got put on hold, as my sister just bought an RSX Type S through the insurance company. We've been working on that instead of the R, so I will let the pictures do the rest of the explaining.

Surprisingly yes. It only needed to be pulled a very minimal amount, but it did the trick. Everything it as close as it can get. All that remains at this point is interior reassembly, new paint, minor bodywork, and inspections once all that is done.

That's friggen awesome, I'm glad you were able to do that instead of hacking up another integra and doing a bunch of welding... this is going to make one hell of a track car.

Not sure if you misread something, but the GSR will be a track car. The ITR will be sold once we complete the repairs.

Thanks everyone, for the positive feedback!

That 98 looks so similar to the one that was rear ended after the We-Todd meet.

Really? Could he give us the stock wheels? haha

I saw this thread he made a while back. I wanted to reply, but I've had endless troubles registering and no support from the admins. Oh well.

Selling it for the money. I know these cars will only go up in value, but we have too many cars right now, and a Type R isn't really feasible as a summer driver/track car because we have...

-1969 Corvette Stingray (Summer Beast)
-1969 Porsche 911e Targa
-1998 GMC Sierra (Father's DD)
-3 Oval track racecars (Integra GSR, Civic SIR, and Prelude SRV)
-2002 RSX Type S (Sister's DD)
-1994 Prelude SRV (My DD)
-2002 Nissan Xterra (Mother's DD)

So you can really see we don't have room for it, and it would be nice to have the extra cash.

Alright, but hopefully I won't get in trouble like I did on the other forum for posting Prelude pics.

Pics from when I first got it, now I have one piece headlights, front lip, and a few other goodies that aren't in the pictures.

I don't really have anything to message him, other than the obscure amount of water bottles he left in the car. It also would have been nice if he cleaned it once in a while.. Oh well.

Also, I would like to point out that this post is what motivated me to make this thread here. I'd always thought of it, but this post made me say "Let's do this".

I would keep it, it's a way better car for street/track than the prelude and who really need ac when you live on Vancouver island, doesnt even get hot there...
