OK I'll bite, first I think theres more than meets the eye. Obviously the Integra has an aftermarket suspension and most likely "other" mods. Second it looks like it's and HPDE so as we know alot has to do with driver abiltiy. Third, until they pass the Morgan or Caterham or whatever it is they are holding back. Then it looks like after the 2nd or so lap the Elise is getting a hint sloppy and pardon if I'm incorrect but the Integra looks to turn in a bit early before the main straight with the tower since he tends to lose the Elise at this point. And even though the Integra driver seems to be calm and relatively smooth he seems to over shoot or overcorrect at some apexis, not until at least the 3rd lap did I notice the Integra driver clearly shuffle steer, at some points prior he actually goes hand over hand. Too bad the Exige in front didn't allow the Elise and Integra to pass, then you'd see what's what.

All things considered "if" both the Elise and Integra were stock it looked like quite a fun ride but I'm guessing the Integra was far from stock. And if the track was clear it looked like the Elise would have walked the Integra in a few spots.

So what's the story?

Didn't early editions of the Exige and Elise use the B18C5, before switching to Toyota? That could also be another explanation...

Not in the US AFAIK. The Rover Engine was the other offering before the Toyota and or the GM powerplants. The B18C5 was a hybrid not factory offered here I think and the K20 was originally a UK only offering, again if my memrory serves me correctly.

Yeah, B18C5 was never offered from the factory. Sun Motorsports threw that hybrid together.

fwiw, they never offered a k20 from the factory from lotus in their elise, even with the current or old models, rather lots of enthusiasts do that mod. it was either rover or toyota.

everyone on elisetalk and the old lotususa forums were speculating why they all decided to go from rover to toyota instead of honda. many were speculating simply because thats the company they were able to sign a contract with for the motor/tranny and R&D.

isnt lotus also engineering that all electric sportscar? i forget the make...

This might be a little OT but at my local AutoX, another fellow ITR owner and myself(in STX) "routinely" beat the stock Lotus elise "in raw lap time" that also runs the course with us. It uses the toyota engine.

I know part of the confusion with the Elise's is that the Rover engine was called the K-series. K-series, K20, it makes sense. Sort of.

I don't claim to be a great driver, or even a good driver. But I know what rev matching is, that's more that can be said for the driver in the video, haha.

Still a pretty badass video, he kept up pretty well.

True, although the Rover K-series was a 1.8 litre, so K20 doesn't quite fit.

The good news is that the Rover POS was an iron-block lump, meaning a Honda swap saves a significant amount of weight in the earlier cars.

Good God, what happened to the days when British engineering was world-class? Am I the only one here who laments the demise of such superlative examples as the Jaguar XK engine or the Supermarine Spitfire?
