Daily Driveability of the R?
Im def looking to purchase an R soon but was wondering how tough is it in the interior soundwise? Is the engine noise deafening, or any rattling issues? Im hoping to hear from stock or close to stock owners. I will very likely get a DD, as keeping the R as the DD may be dangerous.

Re: Daily Driveability of the R? (Sfedai0)
if you are thinking about getting a R as a daily you better make sure the places you go are safe and have proper parking to keep it that way, the noise level will be a little lounder, but thats why the R was built that way to be lighter, its a race car on the streets you have to give a little to do what it does!

I'm too used to it to really tell. Stock, it's perfectly acceptable for me, but there is tire noise, and sweet mechanical noises; very few rattles.. mostly from swings in temperature (cold morning, mild afternoon).
I wouldn't want to chat away on the cell with someone all the time in it, but I don't anyway. There are accessories that filter out background noise in case one needs to.
Engine noise deafening? No. It's not like a hole in the firewall or missing grommets or something. Louder than a stock GS-R? Yeah. I drove 5000 miles during a vacation a few years back and had no complaints about noise or ride quality; car completely stock.
The R can be as good as a Civic when it comes to the driving part of daily driver. The problem, as stated, is the negative attention and downright risk of theft. Aside from a select few places, almost all the trips I make do not involve parking and getting out.

Re: Daily Driveability of the R? (Sfedai0)
To me the only issue with the R as a daily driver is theft. I think its sucha big problem (anywhere in the US or Canada) that I would never recommend an ITR as a daily driver.
A much better choice is a 2006-7 Civic Si. As an owner of both cars I can say that the Si provides 95% of the engine excitement, 110% of the engine torque, 100% of the engine power, 100% of the tranny precision, 85% of the handling prowess, 150% of the luxury and 100% of the on street performance of the ITR. It is essentially invisible to the average person in public and has proven itself a great daily driver with 29mpg fuel economy, good around town torque, cruise control, good steroe with MP3 capability and aux input. The only real drawback is no hatch and a small trunk.

I decided yesterday that although the integra type r is a special car, its still just a car. It will become my daily driver in about a week or so. Car is an awesome daily driver, although like everyone has stated, theft is a major problem. I dont know if I can take that feeling of not knowing if my car is stolen 24 hours a day now. Either way im going to enjoy it while I can.

Re: Daily Driveability of the R? (Sfedai0)
I'd say the noise level is better than driving a truck. My company has a 2000 GMC Sierra and it is much louder than my car.
I have a pretty stiff suspension setup but it is only annoying over certain bumps. I was actually thinking how smooth it felt on the way back from the Thanksgiving Meet.
I think tires make a big diffference in the noise level. I have brand new Yoko AVS Es100s and they are pretty quiet.
The car has basically no rattles. This is old-school Honda, remember, not current trash

A stock ITR can be a perfect daily driver, even with an intake and header.
Noise depends more on the rest of the exhaust and tire choice.
I have an 06 Si as well, which I bought after my second ITR was stolen from in front of my appartment building last October.
The Si is a nice comparison to the ITR but is heavier, and a new one will definately cost more than a used ITR (but is less conspicuous).

Mine has been a DD for 5 years now. I find it a little noisy when talking on the phone, but I don't like doing that anyway. And I miss cruise control on long trips. Other than that, it's great, as long as you can keep it safe.

I daily-drove mine for a while, until I got tired of shifting. No serious complaints about NVH. Hell, my current daily-driver is a lot louder than #009 was

An R as a daily driver is fine. I daily drive mine. Its the only car I have so I have no choice. I used to have a civic hatchback but sold it cause I would want to take the R out anyway. Like everyone else has preached theft is the biggest concern just becareful where you take it and lock it up. In the end its just a car, drive it and enjoy it.

Like everyone else, I'm happy with mine as a daily driver. It's a bit noisier than the GS-R, but not obnoxiously so. Rattles are not a problem. (If you really care about noise, though, then another car might be a better choice.)
I don't worry about theft; I drive it to the usual places in the city and suburbs - residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, shopping malls, office buildings, downtown Chicago (parking in a parking garage, which I do with any car), etc. If it gets stolen, well, that's what insurance is for.
I think it's a great all-around choice, one of the most versatile cars on the planet. You can drive it on a racetrack or in bumper to bumper traffic. It's great in bad weather and awesome in winter if you throw some Blizzaks on it. Hauls a ton of stuff, and hauls, period. Keep up with the maintenance and it will be as reliable as anything on the road.

On a college campus, probably not a good idea.

I didn't have a problem driving mine to college, However, It was here in Nebraska. But I'd recommend treating a Type R as You aren't safe anywhere. I figured I was taking a risk every day.

Yeah nowadays those kids have probably never heard of an ITR. They all seem to drive Evos, Stis, RX8s, even A3s, 5 series...must be nice

I'd have to say that I haven't experienced many problems except for theft earlier this year. I've driven my car since high school, I'm in my third year of college now and I've driven it to and from school. Just make sure you have the proper security or better security. If you have a choice, don't drive your car anywhere in which you must leave your car alone for more than 1 hour.

My Type-R sits in the garage daily... Comes out to play on nice days, and at night. I'd recommend buying a cheap daily driver, and keep the ITR as a toy. BUT, I know of MANY people that drive Type-Rs daily, and most of them don't have any problems with break-ins, or theft. It's all about where you live, where you drive, and how safe you feel driving a highly stolen car.
Noise isn't an issue for me... And my engine breathes quite nice.
-TODA Header
-Omnipower Testpipe
-DC Sports Exhaust
-AEM 3" CAI
The car's quiet at partial throttle, idles quietly, but when I go WOT... It's an entirely different story, I get calls from people who live miles away from where I'm killing it, asking if I'm driving near their house... I'm not at all kidding either.
My mom says she always knows when I'm coming home at night, because she hears me coming for miles, haha.

Based on most of the cases I've read here, that's not true at all. Insurance seems to be reimbursing people right around the actual market value of the ITRs that are stolen - some a little more, and others a little less, but overall they're pretty darn close.

Re: Daily Driveability of the R? (Sfedai0)
A stock R is not loud at all if you drive normal. You can hear the engine but it is not deafening by any means. However, if you go into high rpm's it will be loud for sure.
My advice is to not daily drive an R. If you do I would de-badge it and take off the wing. It won't prevent it from getting stolen, but it will take attention away from potential theives. Hope this helps.
