One of the worst things for an owner to do is post underhood pics showing the alarm siren sitting in plain view. With that knowledge, a thief will be prepared to silence your alarm in 2 seconds, 3 if his buddy is slow... (assuming 2 guys at least, one pops the hood, other rips the exposed wires out that lead to said siren or battery)

So, I just talked with the claims adjuster... and she said we have to wait 10 days to see if its recovered... then we can settle... she also said the settlement payment is based off a radius for sale of comparison vehicles, and NOT KBB value.. can anyone chime in on this with experience on that? I'm guessing they will just look for Type R's for sale in the SD/OC area and do an average??? is that how it works? Anybody with a stolen R around here get what they consider fair value for their car? Anyone been jipped?

^ i've been in the process unfortunately.
start compiling printouts of cars like yours... make, model, trim, color, mileage, condition, etc., etc. within X amount of miles they're telling you for your radius. (the closer the cars are to yours in terms of model/condition as well as distance, the better). state farm didn't do an average for me... i just showed them the highest listings i could find for similar cars and they worked with that. for me, my mods did didly squat... even with receipts! an adjuster was nice enough to credit me $200 due to my near new tires i had when i totalled my DB8.
if i recall, you mentioned that your R had a "salvage" title. i can relate to this. the fact my DB8 was considered "salvage" when it was totalled the 2nd time didn't matter because after it was "salvaged" the 1st time, i fixed it up and paid for full coverage. the full coverage covered most everything even though it had a "salvage" title anyhow. others will say this, but don't settle until you've at least counteroffered once or twice. don't give up. good luck, buddy. PM me if you have another questions to my situation. i know BlackR has dealt with insurance companies quite extensively and also Ross.

Re: (JackBurton)
thats usually a good thing for our cars, because market value is normally way greater than kbb in most areas, i dont know about salvage though, but up here, most clean title itr's i've seen are going for 15k-20k... good luck man

ITR's aren't in the KBB. well they are, but the value is not there. instead, this is what they list:
"This Value Is Not Available
Because the market for this trim is unusually small, specialized or otherwise unique, we are not able to report a Private Party value."
but, since most people who are selling their ITR's mark the prices up, you should get good value for yours. some so-so insurance company gave my friend 17k for his..which had high mileage, i might add.
IMO that's not bad at all.
with 17k i'd use:
-500 or so for a decent handgun
-300 for a decent pitbull
-then find a used AP1 with red interior and put hot rims on it
-sleep better at night knowing i don't have the most stolen vehicle per car made on the planet

another one down...
i know how you feel man, my cw was stolen on oct 7th, 2007.
one word of advice is don't let the insruance company tell you its worth next to nothing. i sent them other itr's forsale to prove their value to which they told me they cannot use my documents so i had them go online and see for themselves.
good luck, i made out well with insurance....i hope the same for you

Some very good info in this thread guys... again, thanks to all for your kind words and sage advice. I have done a 100 mile radius search on auto trader and came up with a range of 13.5 -21k as of this week. That should help me, along with the incredible r's for sale in this forum, I have alot going in my favor. But alas, she could still show up, and I could end up getting her fixed back up. I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Sorry for your loss. Check Ebay and craigslist constantly for parts. Type R owners should really invest in some guns seriously. For those who live in states that have castle doctrine law that states you can defend your property(cars) by any means(yes deadly force) including shooting someone....get a glock and AR15. so if you are old enough and can legally own a gun please get one.(get your ccw too)

Well true a car isn't really worth dying for but if thieves get into the house that's a whole new different story haha. I'm gonna feel so bad for any thieves that enter my house.

Was your car within 300 feet of your bedroom with no undue interference besides the walls of your house? Driveway Patrol works well in situations where the car is parked close to/in front of a house (sidewalk or driveway).
Fry's Electronics sell relatively inexpensive wireless cameras that you can hook up to a VCR or DVR. Cameras that have night vision are slightly costlier.
