Default Comptech Icebox vs Mugen Intake... Any lurking gurus want to comment ?

I spent a good 10 mins searching for some pics or infor on how similar these two are in design and performance and didn't come up with any answers.

So has anyone seen both in person, and seen what the similarities or differences are ?

Hoping that someone can shed some light on the differences in these two.

If you search around for pics you'll just see one's a helluva lot wider in diameter than the other.

both work the same way.. i had comptech, i liked stock better.. if anything i'd use stock air box with comptech filter. you get minimal gains with intake. definately not worth the extra money for mugen.. comptech box built quality is far from greatest.

I disagree. The Mugen intake is well worth it on a road course. It's a huge advantage in regards to throttle response.

It's a huge advantage as Jason said. There is no disadvantage. It's well worth the price and the install process.

It's powerful throughout the entire rev range, top to bottom, and extended (on the high end) that flat torque curve found after vtec engagement about 450-500rpms higher than any other intake I ever used. (dyno info) It pulls very strong with no sense of giving in, like, for instance, the J's feels at very high RPM's. (feels like it gives up or runs out of air) The comptech is nice, no doubt, but the Mugen is just better.

There is no comparison. It's not for everyone due to the price, but there is no denying it is the best intake.

I own the Mugen intake. I haven't driven the car with it yet. When I do I'll give you a comparison between the Mugen intake and the intercooler w/piping that was in it's place before hand .

As far as fitment and design, it's pretty spot on.

the complete comptech setup has nice midrange, and the gains werent minimal. Not as peaky as the AEM CAI, but wasnt that far off of the mugen intake as well. Only problem witht he Comptech Icebox is the price.

Intake arm really doesn't do much for the type R. I got my icebox for $150, and my used spoon sports filter for $50 (not really used, some ex-showcar-R owner sold it to me). Cheap intake and better throttle response than stock and probably good for a few ponies . I didn't have Mugen Intake money, that would've been my #1 choice

mugen > comptech in every way:

$, quality, and power gains

If you have the $, get mugen. If you're on a budget, comptech.

Ah, as others have said you can stick with the stock R arm. I dunno what new price is but I paid ~120 for the box used in good condition.

I would get the M00gen if I had the $$ though.

Crikey ,

Seems like a stupid question to me, but, can you run AC with the mugen intake?

Any one know if an aftermarket arm (aem, arc, comptech) will work/fit on the mugen intake?
