civic better than integra?
on the spoon sports website, specifically http://www.spoonsports.co.jp/e/g_wor...c_integra.html why does it say that the integra is a "beginner's car" and "upper limits are not high," but a civic is a "well balanced" car? Did i waste 10000 on an integra when i should have gotten a civic? what do you think... spoon knows best...

Civic does have good balance...and honestly...
A Honda Civic is superior to any Integra when your racing just because its lighter to start with....
stock vs stock.
The handling can be almost identical If you spend the money on aftermarket suspension systems and wheels on each...
But the person who wants to win will always chose the lightest platform to start from...
Light = good.
Civic is lighter.

If everything stock, I will go with Integra.
But if you are looking for a car to modify, go with the Civic. Lighter is better!!

Re: civic better than integra? (d8168055)
If you are that serious in road racing that requires the "upper limits" that Spoon demanded. Then you better prepare for investments on your track civic much more than just the 10,000 you spend on your Integra. And making a good Civic in the U.S. that's "upper limit" and superior than Rs have yet to been seen. ie. Roger Foo's Civic vs RTR ITRs...but of course, if inside the Civic is a B18C5 making it a Civicu-R, it may be a differenct story. But I doubt that RTR ITR will lose to a Si Hybrid, since there are still minimum weight requirements.
To make things simpler : Wait till you have the skill to drive an "upper-limit" car and the motive of getting there while making lots of money to invest. For the meanwhile, practice on your "beginner" car, not all of us have to talent to acquire the upper limit driving skill. Until then....Drivers matters the most.

Stock for stock it is going to depend on what type of track. On anything but a very close track the Integra's power will make up for any disadvantage in the weight department.

Re: civic better than integra? (ActiveAero)
In the US, stock ITR is superior than any stock Civic. (obviously.) Even if you were to mod the Civic with all the bolt-on's and swapping engines, the overall performance is better on an ITR. I've have both EK fixed up and ITR and EK body flexes WAY too much. (no roll-cage on either car.) If both were to become a track car, Civic is better due to what everyone said... lighter.
But, the bottom line is, it's what you make of it. A hybrid Civic can spank an ITR with little mods, but ITR can whoop-*** if tuned right.
As for Foo vs. RTR. Kleinubing is carrying extra 100-150 lbs in his car where are Foo doesn't have any weight penalties. Try pitting Kleinubing against Foo w/ no extra weight... RTR wins hands down.

Re: civic better than integra? (Nighthawk GS-R)
I think you missed the point he was trying to make about the 10g. I think he meant... Did I waste AN EXTRA 10000 on an integra over a civic?
edit - But its a 98... I dunno, I could be wrong

Re: civic better than integra? (Nighthawk GS-R)
yes, Nighthawk, Xerzex is right... what i meant is that i spent the extra 10+ G's for the Type R when i could have bought a DX civic, spent that 10 wisely, and still kicked a stock type R's ***... haha, but yes i am overall happy w/ the type R, but my idol tuners (spoon) are dissing it... grrrrr...

Re: civic better than integra? (d8168055)
If any of you have seen the best motoring Legend of Type-R video you can see how the Civic an Integra compare on a track stock for stock. In the dry track race with the Civic R, Integra R, and Celica's, the Integra simply dominated. In less than two laps you could only catch a glimpse of the Teg as it rounded a far corner. There was one view from inside the Civic that shows it blast past it and an Altezza in one section of corners, and preceded to eat up the two Celicas on the next straight. Unless I am misinformed (which I might be) those are highly skilled drivers in each car so I'm sure the race was fairly equal, and they even off set the starting positions to give the Integra and S2000(which of course turned the fastest lap time) a disadvantage.

Re: civic better than integra? (Mr. JDM)
Before everyone starts yapping about Roger building his Civic for only $10k, keep one thing in mind. He built it HIMSELF. The major cost in building a race car is the fabrication costs of the cage, reinforcement, etc.
So, if we remove the costs of fabrication, and only list the cost of parts, then my R cost well under $10k to race.

Re: civic better than integra? (Andrew)
This is a pointless comparison. You paid an extra 10k not only to have a faster car, but a nicer car as well. If you were only interested in being the fastest you would have gotten something else, because getting an ITR is not the way to be the fastest. But it sure is nicer/more exclusive and all those other things that make an ITR cool.

Re: civic better than integra? (Mr. JDM)
roger foo built his car for 10k, thats it. if any of you think that a modded r is better that a modded hatch, who won the race last week? do you homework and you might be surprised, if you can actually acept the facts.
Oh......and wow! RTR had win for how many consecutive years and how many 1st places? So if a civic win one 1st then it can over-rule all the previous ITR wins and declare itself a better car than ITRs? Talk about fairness.......I only accept facts based on a statistical basis.
And by the way, How can you be positively sure that Civic is under 10K?.....remember that everyone in that race is cheating from hiding specs.

Re: civic better than integra? (Ein)
Ein,
I don't know whether to be insulted or laugh at your response to my post -- coming from a guy with a 95 GS, posting in the Type R forum, with a picture of an M3 in his avatar.
"If you were only interested in being the fastest you would have gotten something else, because getting an ITR is not the way to be the fastest. " -- What the hell do YOU know about going fast? With this way of thinking, why race ANYTHING less than an F1 car, huh? Because there is always going to be something faster right?
You tool.

Re: civic better than integra? (Mr. JDM)
Realtime R's also have the TB restrictor plate on them as well (along with the weight). If you actually watch the races, the RTR R's get pulled on by just about everything in the straights, but in the corners they kick @ss.
Plus, the heavy BMWs just eat up their "street" tires by the end of the race. At the end of the race, the lighter cars will be the faster ones.

Re: civic better than integra? (Todd00)
Ultimately, a Civic will always beat an Integra because of the weight. Remember that I'm not comparing stock ones... Then again, a Civic will never match a Corvette properly prepped on a high speed track because it doesn't have the wheelbase and track width. There are many considerations, but certain platforms can perform better under different circumstances. I think it's unfair to say that a Civic is better than the Integra, but they're slightly different vehicles.

Re: civic better than integra? (d8168055)
well i guess both cars have their strenghts and weaknesses... but the good thing is that they are both really tunable and that whatever the driver prefers is most important. no, the type R is not the fastest, I have lost to many other cars, but i still love it alot... even if i use it only as a daily driver... it still gets me from point A to B in styyyyyyyyyle...

Civics have their strengths, but I'd rather drive an Integra anyday. Much more fun car to drive IMHO.
Then again, my $900 beater made by mitsubishi back in 1988 is more fun to drive than either of these fuggin honduhs IMO
