cheap timing belt = this
Prepared my R today to go at the first big local meet... bad luck never i never thinked that this could happen.. but yes sh**** happen..timing belt just die on me... never thoug that was this and ive tryed to restart the engine i did wrong doing this move i know... . now i dont know what to do if i put money on this engine i have to send it to a good place and redonne the built completely... its th original motor/tranny but 8000km on the sh**** rebuilt...i just changed the waterpump 2 weeks ago because the previous owner installed a crappy one... he did the same whit the timing belt... stupid i am if only ive changed the belt... nevermind that a 8000km one could died...

Looks like a racoons fur got sucked into your timing cover and yeah if one things cheap its all cheap. look at them super blue cam seals haha. rebuild the original motor.

Sorry for the big a*** pics and its not a racoon but a woodpicker bird that stuck in the rear diff who did this!!lol,didnt saw the cam gears seal..loll like the rest...jobber sh****..

ONEtime I bought an off brand timing kit (eBay) and got roughly 6000 miles before that happened to ME. Bent valves and time and tow, it was a learning lesson to be sure. NO MORE OFF BRAND BELTS! Gates only forever.

Head i dont know but im not abble to turn the cam gears by hands.so i think will need to be rebuilt.oil pump is dead..puley is bent and waterpump is dead.. i dont plan to open the engine for now..to devastated(mental)

Im agree on this ..maybe me in the water pump change.. i did all the hane's manual procedure.. and get verified by a tech and my job was flawless...i put the blame on the ebay timing belt... but i will never really know...i miss this car... one day i will have another one...one day..

Its done now, nothing to do but assess the damage and move forward. Did the belt break under load or while idling?
Pull the head and have the valves and guides checked. Inspect the block for damage to the sleeves. If you're lucky only the valves took the hit. The block could be damaged hopefully a re-hone will fix. Just take it one step a time.

I sold her the day after the belt broke,,pregnant wife(8months) and i was frustrated.. not a money problem but sometimes priority change...owner pull the head and everything is flawless,cams/pistons are good,, only the oilpump and waterpump are dead,,, and all happen on a "paisible" road..damm timing belt ebay ****...

yes ,,a real cdm 2001 with the oem red seats,,yes,,i did a stupid move but i dont regret,,crappy engine rebuilt,,no time for play in it,,no real engine builder here i have to get out the engine,send it to a good place,,wait 2 months,3000$ and more ,,,im over that,,very tired to give time to something who last 20 min,,,i give her 3 months,,first meet,,,caboumm
next ''R'' will be in flawless shape,,no engine rebuilt,,,1 or 2 owners,low miles,,all oem,,,,will wait until my boy come(wife is pregnant) and next summer look for another one

OMG!!! Congrats on that baby I hope the lord grants you a very healthy son! I'm just jealous someone literally stole a CDM itr for soo cheap. I would have procured a JDM ITR replacement for $2500 and had it running the next day UGH! why am I never soo lucky!

I have a semi related question. I replaced belt and tensioner with OEM 5 years ago, but have only done 11,000 km (about 7,000 miles) since then. So when should I replace again?
