Ok well it has been towed to the dealership, but I am not really sure (obviously) what went wrong. I just wanted to of your opinions on what might be wrong.

I warmed up the R this morning before leaving. It was the first snow storm so far this year, it IS and still is so cold that the antenna won't go up, I think its frozen, because it goes 1/4 way up and then starts clicking.

Anyway, I think the cold had alot to do with it, but i was driving and then the car sputtered for about 2 seconds, I took it out of 4th and put it in neutral and the engine cut off. It won;t start at all, and doesn't sound like its even trying really.

My first guess is the timing belt. Any other opinions are more than welcome. Kinda sucks it happened this time of year, cause I just spend loads on money on X-mas. Thanks again guys.

So all the mods in your sig are still on the car? How does it idle?

When I had B's, I had to retune for drastic weather changes (ie dead of summer vs. middle of winter).

btw, what oil are you running? if it's that cold, 5w-30 will probably run better if you're running 10w-30.

yea all the mods are still on it. And it idles fine after it is warmed up. I an going to dinner tongiht, but I will check the thread out later.

I had that antenna situation this morning.
Just needs to be cleaned up and lubed. IMHO

The dealer is going to have fun with u with all these none factory parts. Why didn't you consult with the mechanics who install all this mix and match and let him work on it since your warranty were bye-bye already? Were your alternator light was on dim and drove down your battery?

tow it back.. dealership is for stock cars and higher priced labor. do you have a backup car? if so, definately tow it back.. maybe try to investigate as much as you can yourself to what damage has been done.

I was thinking the same thing... maybe I am naive, but I didn't think dealers deal with radical after market parts (like cams, different pistons, etc. etc.)? Even if they did, how would they know how to tune the motor? I can see a dealer installing an aftermarket header or clutch or exhaust or exterior cosmetics or even radio, but, engine mods?

Good luck I'll pray that they choose not to touch your car and you can bring it to a recommended aftermarket shop. It will cost you much less in the long run and probably get a better job.

Note to everyone... modifications + dealer = $$$$$$$$$$$$

Thanks everyone, I am currently driving my GF's neon lol. As for the oil I am runnign motul right now, i believe its 10w 30 but i would need to check the can.

I am pretty sure now its not the timing belt based on some of my friends advice. If the dealership tells me whats wrong, my friends shop is down the road. I may just tow it to them.

I still just don;t understand what happened. I was driving normally and it just shut down.

Thanks for the advice on the antenna, that was the last problem i needed right now.

See, the car was built pretty much by the previous owner most of the parts, and it is not exactly down the street from where i live, its like 3 hours away i think. And that would mean huge towing bills. My friends shop is a aftermarket turbo primarily shop. But they will be able to fix whatever is wrong.

EDIT: As for the battery light and alternator, that is starting to make alot of sense because that light did come on and fade, and then die completely with the car. And when i went to try and start it again, it was very slow to turn over.

Sounds electrical to me. Fuse popped loose, ECU on the fritz (condensation in the cold?), etc. "Could have been" water in the fuel lines, or something sinister like that.

I've never had it happen to me, but you 'can' get a bad tank of gas, or condensation in the gas tank if your tank was almost empty.

Hopefully it's something stupid that a dealer can solve in no time (time is money)

haha the neon is sooooo much slower to drive. I gotta be careful leaving parking lots and jumping into traffic because i am used to that extra power.

as for the gas tank, i believe i have just less than half a tank soo that shouldn't be it. I am starting to think alternator. But the car has more problems then that I think because there was also a sound that sounded like little pieces of metal being tossed around somewhere in the engine. But it was coming from around the alternator region/ cam gear region.

whatever that sound was/is I believe to be what happened.

haha that wasn't her man. besides she already got me like $300 towards tuning my car once I get it up and running again. I am gonna make sure all the internals and externals are ok before I tune though.

I want it to be a monster in the spring in summer......well a inline 4 monster lol. But I don't want to do any dyno runs and tuning until I know the car is basically 100%. Once i know it is I will tune and will keep you all posted on horse and torque.

I hope the dealership calls me soon though. I am dieing to know if its a huge deal or not.

I don't understand how people have heavily modded cars and know nothing about them (or working on them). . It's just wayyyy too expensive, and no where near half the fun. .

yea dude, that is way uncalled for. I know about my car, I just don;t know as much as some people. I have only had it for about 6 months now, and I am learning ALOT as I go. I want to learn, which is why I read on this website and search all the time. I even bought a book I am reading on how to work on Type R's.

I can do some of my own work, right now however its christmas and I just don't have much time to be fiddleing around with the car.

And as for fun?? How do you knwo I am not having fun with the car. Its been an awesome experience so far with a few track experiences and some work of my own on the car. Its a great feeling when you know you are learning something abotu your car. And as for track time, I have never had so much fun in my life.

I don't believe that one bit! You don't even know what motor oil weight you're running. You really should take more of an active role in your car, especially with the mods you've listed.

AGREED! from the posts i've seen made by Tootsie it is clear he knows absolutely nothing and always jumps on the next big thing.

I know you are trying to learn and I don't pretend to know everything myself but come on man at LEAST you gotta know what oil you are using that's horrible that you have to guess.

I agree. It could even be something as simple as the battery cable coming loose.

BTW, the viscosity of your oil would not make the engine suddenly die...

thank you. I don't know how oil got involved in the engine breaking conversation anyway. It obviously has nothing to do with it, and its 10w30 for those who care.

Well I talked to the dealership, it was the timing belt and they say some valves are bent.

So far I am looking at near $3000 to get it repaired..... they said to keep my fingers crossed that the pistons are ok.
