Anyone use JDM Recaros on track with Harnesses?
Hey,
Well the subject said it all I guess. I am looking at buying a set of these
http://www.streetimports.com/p...d=368
or these
http://www.streetimports.com/p...d=371
does anyone have experince with them and any thoughts on using them on track. The only reason I want them is to prevent me cheing up the stock seats. I don't race just go to the track and play.
thanks for any input!
EDIT:...oops...I meant JDM in the subject...anyway you know what I mean

Why would track use damage your stock seats?

The ones you're looking at are generic Fake wannabe Recaro's. I the topic says " Anyone use JDR Recaros on TRACK with HARNESS" but when I read your post, you said " I DON'T RACE just go to track and play."
Im under the impression that you DO race because you're WONDERING about Racing seats with the Racing Harness. If you race, for the money you spend on REAL Recaro's, you can pick up a pretty nice Racing Seat, one thats for real racing. The Recaro's are just performance seats, not racing seats. The ITR's seats are fine stock
for plain old driving but if you are going to race, I'd suggest picking up a real racing shell because Recaro's are nice when you want to spank a corner on the way to the grocery store, i don't know if it would be the BEST for good racing.
Stock seats will wrinkle and fade, its pointless to take the stock ones out cause you wanna keep em in good condition. JDM recaro's are made out of Alcantera too, they will wrinkle, and they will fade.
I've been in a Mugen S-1 before, the seat is lowered and it hugs your hips pretty well too. I'd suggest that instead of these $299 dollar seats that are REAL racing seats and for the bling factor

Re: Anyone use JDM Recaros on track with Harnesses? (Nvious R)
Thanks for the reply. The main reason I ask is that I have a "race car" but when I go to the track to instruct with my local HPDE groups I take the ITR. I want to keep the stock seats in good shape and I could care less if the seats used on the track duty stuff get messed up or not. The main goal is to have seats that I can route the shoulders through, and crawl in and out of and not worry about a harness buckle grabbing the seat and tearing it etc.
I was just hoping I could use the seats advertised as my HPDE seats and not spend the cash on the more pricey buckets.
here is my current setup:
thanks

A cheap bucket would probably be better - Sparco 'sprint' and Corbeau 'Forza' are both reasonably priced.

Yep, and as will be pointed out eventually the lack of a 5 point harness will not be allowed for NASA events at least, as well the addition of the 5th point to a stock seat is not ideal, nor is there any seat back bracing visible from your pics to the stock seats which is also required..
It's just easier to do a Real shell, and solve most, if not all of your issues.

Why is a 5 point harness required? You can use stock belts with a rollbar, or even a fixed back seat and rollbar.
A 5th point on the stock seat is certainly not ideal, but it is allowed.
A seat back brace would not be required on those seats either. It is in the rulebook, but if your seat is not in danger of folding under the harness bar, it will not be enforced.

As opposed to a 4 point? This as I understood it was mandatory for NASA these days?

Agreed and understood but that is a 3 point no? And some of the fixed back seats make it difficult for the stock 3 point belt to secure the occupants as I've encountered but other seats allow for the belt to secure properly, I'd guess this is based on the seat and preference.

As I'm also guilty of, but I've also ammended the stock seat with a proper seat back brace mounted to the rollbar.

I think we went over that a few more times than 100 on the NASA forums But, even with the stock seats furthest back there is a gap between the seat back and the harnessbar. And if theres a hint of room there potentially is also room enough to slide out or not be secured enough or properly.
I'm not trying to open a can of worms RJ, I just remember all those posts about a year ago and the ones since when the new CCR came out.
I understand how it is all up to interpretation but always better to be safe than sorry?
Maybe I'm misinformed maybe I'm even confused but if I was to do it all over again I'da just got 2 shells (as you mentioned) and did 5 points on both sides.

Re: Anyone use JDM Recaros on track with Harnesses? (.RJ)
I don't do NASA events anymore...but tat is another story. With all the clubs I do events with a street car with street safety is all that is needed for the HPDE. I am just looking for a way to keep from messing up my stock seats. Also what I do for me I will do for the passenger seat. Thus the rteason for wanting to do it as cheap as possible. I always hated getting into a students car and they have a 1500 dollar seat and harnesses and I am in the 15 year old stocker with a lap belt....no thanks.
I mainly wanted to know how well the seats are made and if you felt they are safe or not.
when it comes to real racing I'll use this
Thanks again for all the great info

Yeah, don't misunderstand, I was just trying to help and maybe make you aware of situations I've already been in.
Now, about that pic of the nice Miata,,, H'mmm what's red and lurking behind it? I'd like to see a shot of that too
Best of luck

Re: Anyone use JDM Recaros on track with Harnesses? (1GreyTeg)
NO NO....no misunderstanding here...all are great points. I just didn't want anyone to think I had lost my mind. I only take the ITR about 5 times per year so I was just trying to find a solution that fits the following:
1)mounting holes that allow harness to pass through
2)look fairly stock so as to not gather a lot of attention from the "bling bling" crowd
3)comfortable enough so that my wife would still drive the car on occasion
4) cheap....cause I am a cheap bastard
oh...and that red thing is a friend of mines Cobra...its a Shelby FIA 289 continuation car...pretty sweet. I loan him my trailer from time to time to take the car to the track. I am not sure what the CSX chassis number is.
but MY little red car is this one....
Thanks again!!!!!!!
