Default 1999 Type R?

ok so what exactly happened in 1999 with the integra Type R, every website i go to says "97-98" and "00-01" what's the deal, why isnt it just "97-01" if the 99's were just rebadged 98's then what happened in 99 to deem such a thing necessary. why not continue production of them in 99. the internet tells you alot, but what's the truth. anyone out there know the story?

I'll bite. They only made 99 copies of the 1999 ITR. They had 6 lug brakes (like the Dodge Viper), longitudinally mounted 2.8L DOHC V6 (little brother of the one found in the NSX), and had some form of AWD. They only made so little because the AWD system was fairly new/prototype stage and wasn't very good, at that. Also, it wasn't officially called the Integra Type R, which is why you can't find it. But on the outside it looks just like one. Also, they only offered it in Gunmetal paint.

Hope that answers your question.

im guessing that the sites your looking at is for usdm itr's. So they wouldn't include the 99's. I read an article about this subject but can't remember where.

Negative no 99's were made in the states. I do believe there is production numbers though tyrant07 or doespike will be able to tell you more.

Must be because we should have 3 years of CW and not 2. Strange they would sell it in CDN but not US which is right there.

No ITR's were "made in the States" but in 99 there were no cars shipped TO the States.
Canada did receive a limited number of them.

The US had no 99 Type Rs because American Honda did not want to sell 99 Type Rs there.

The reason being is the 97 and 98 ITR was a flop in the US. By the end of 98 many Acura dealers not only still had 98s but they probably still had the 97s on the lot as well. At the time, I can recall people complaining that it was noisy, rough, no sunroof/cruise control. No leather. People didnt think it fit its luxury car nameplate. And it didnt.... It wasnt until 1999 that the magazines really picked up on what the R was and started promoting it. By mid 99 the ball really started rolling and the dealers sold their remaining stocks and started getting orders for more. Thats why it came back for 00. The demand was finally there.

The lack of AC was the dealbreaker for me when I bought my 97 GSR. I was living in NC at the time.

When I bought my 98 in March 98, there were 3 (including mine) sitting in their lot. The other two were still sitting when I went back for a free checkup a couple months later.

Would love to go back in time to see ITRs brand new for sale on lots, and buy one.

At the time, I was only 12 years old in 97.

Yeah I was wondering Integras were sold as Acuras and not Honda? Not exactly a luxury car, esp the Type R.

And now they see what they have created (a cult following)

Hard to believe that even with all the rave reviews from magazines that more track oriented people didn't buy them...

I love the DC2 Type R and i hope to own my own someday. Its sad to see them in the wrong hands. The supply and demand idea by GetRight makes the most sense.

I'll take some pics of mine before the rebuild tomorrow and post them when i can. anyone have numbers for canadian 99 R's? i don't want search to hard for them, mines 0063. I'm loving the Haspot mounts, except for the vibrations you get, realizing there are more and more creeks in the car all the time.

What's crazy is that they sold like mad locally once the stupid markup was removed. Only one (in 1998) sat on the lot unsold long enough for me to even test drive it, others were all sold before delivery.

You'd think in this state of hellish heat the non-standard AC (all had dealer installed A/C that I ever saw sold in florida though) would scare people off..

Of course lapping days (HPDEs) were also popular here back then, and a year long track season probably helped with that. Sebring in August is the worst thing ever though Sebring in December rocks

look into a Ati super damper, it will help ALOT with the vibrations from your mounts
