$6,500 a fair price to paint engine bay, outside of car, replace all weather stripping?
As the topic says, from your guys experience how does this deal sound?
They will paint the whole outside of car and I might add door frames if its not much more. I would pull the motor myself and get the engine bay re-painted. They would pull off rear and front bumper supports, sand the surface rust and re-paint them, and replace all the weather stripping.
Also there are some ripples in my door they would get out, from me pushing too hard to get tar off when washing it a few years ago, and minor scratches here and there. Basically making the body perfect before painting.
Thoughts? I am not doing this anytime soon, I'm pretty tapped out from my latest build, but I am considering this for this winter while the cars sitting.

Well I have seen their work, they are the best. I've had cars in there before for body work and paint and it came out flawless.
I will talk to them about the glass and price the weather stripping seperately. That was their rough estimate, they said it might be less, but since I have some minor damage that is where I'm getting hurt a little.

Yea that's what I am thinking....it gets rid of any rust spots, etc and the car would be brand new looking. Its almost 9 years old, I figured I would like to do it right now and protect it so it will last the next 20 years haha

FWIW
I had my old EK done with new front and rear bumper covers, new OEM hood, new OEM fender, all dents filled, engine bay and door jambs, and new windshield - all for about $4500
This was a quality job as well.

hmm I guess I will shop around more and see what I can find then. If I could find a place that does great work for $4,500 I'd be as happy as a pig in **** lol

Good painters are hard to find...
It's more of a work of art, than anything else. Prep work is a PITA, but when done right makes the whole job worth it.
Toots, just ask to see some of their work. Not pictures, but actual examples. Pay attention to details. Over spray, orange peel, dirt specs and grit in the paint.

dave, I have a shop here that is Bentley and Austin Martin's official NE paint shop that quoted me @ $4,500 to paint my ITR. They're an elite shop in NY. $6,500 is robbery IMO.

Re: (totsie7944)
for the 6,500 id hope they would tear apart the car themselves including all interior and motor, perform all prep work, new oem moldings/ rear quarters, and atleast a 5 year warranty on their work
hell i had a whole car resprayed inside out with new glass and moldings for 4,200 about 5 years ago ... im sure with inflation it would be more now but not 6,500

Yea sounds like I need to check out other places...I just had past experiences with these guys and I liked their work. I'll see about them lowering or meeting other peoples prices perhaps.

I would have but I have a very time demanding job, and I can't just take off work during the week days to track my car. If it is around the same time every year I doubt I will ever make one. I have a particular client that I have to be on that time of year no matter what.

Yea and up until this year I haven't had the money to do that. Now its just a matter of finding the time to register so that I can even drive on these tracks, go through the trainings, etc. Believe me its not that I don't want to, I've wanted to do it for 3 years now, I just have other obligations that are more important than cars.

It's apparent, and obvious most don't know of paint/body work.
Take for example, Sr's Lightning (for those who have seen it) Just the silver painting (before the flame job) was around 5k. What do you get for that? You get paint that you can read a newspaper in the reflection. You get paint that has absolutely no flaws in it. You get quality work from an "artist" if you will.
Let's not forget, your also talking the whole car, and new moldings (going under the OP's original quote) Price just the weather stripping and I can almost bet, for every door seal, window seal, hatch seal, the whole effn 9 that it's over 2k easy. So now we are talking just $4500. Now add at least a grand in labor for removal of front bumper, rear bumper, bumper reinforcements. Then tach up all the work masking all of the hard lines left in the engine bay (ton of work, if done right) Then the rust prevention work...
I think most are looking at it like a $6500 "paint job" which it's not...
And FWIW, I too will be spending nearly this... BUT... I will disassemble the car myself, piece by piece then have the shell but on a rotissere (sp) and done that way.
it's a LOT of work, a LOT. But Toots, if that's what you'd like to do to your car, don't let anyone steer you away.

Thanks man I appreciate your input. I know it would be a ton of work, I would try and do what I could to save some money, but I still need to talk to the shop and see if what I can do to save here and there and make their job easier.
