Maybe he bought a new engine. The car or engine most likley isnt stolen.
My vin on my engine isnt the same as the one on the car, because I got a new engine.

How did you work out the deal with the seller? Was there a bill of sale where you both signed a self-made contract, or anything such as that? Most of the time, when you buy a car off a private seller, you're buying it as is. Meaning that whatever after you handing over the money, the seller is no longer responsible for.

do a carfax on the motor vin #, if that car shows of having been stolen before, take him to court, but if it show up as it was totaled then engine is most likely legit.

Unless the seller lied, and told you there were no swaps, or accidents or anything that would result in unmatched VINs, it's your responsibility as the buyer to ensure that the VINs matched (and that everything else about the car was in a condition you found acceptable for purchase).
The fact that there is a swap isn't necessarily a bad thing. Engine swaps are pretty common on these cars, although it's maybe a bit unusual to swap a different B18C1 into a GS-R. There are four likely reasons this could happen:
1) the original engine blew and was replaced
2) the original chassis is from an LS and a B18C1 was swapped in
3) the seller swapped out a B18C1 and swapped in a less valuable engine such as a B20
4) either the chassis or the engine (or both) is stolen
I'd look all around the car and make sure all the chassis VINs match. You should also follow the other advice. Give us the VINs and we can tell you what cars they belong to, run the chassis VINs and tranny VIN to see if they were ever stolen, and verify that the engine is a B18C.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you have the pink and it is a clean title. Don't worry. Body parts get replaced on our cars all the time. Swapped bumers, doors, interior parts, hood, engine ect, ect.
The only time you'll wanna get mad is if the car is really old and rare and you want a classic Number Matching car. We own newer populer Jap cars nothing to be worried about mangg

If it makes ya feel any better, my car has 3 different VIN numbers on it. The engine is out of an 01' Teg Type-R, the dash is out of an EX Civic, and the shell itself is a 93' DX Hatch.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything. My previous car and its engine were both labeled theft recovery by Carfax, but everything was legit.

Wait so the stamped number under b18c1 isn't suppose to match the vin number on the car? the vin number is on the transmission right? so what is the number under b18c1? is that suppose to match with the vin number on the car?

No thats the engine serial code I believe. The vin is in the rear of the engine right on top of the oil pan and below the filter.

In the picture below you can see a green bar on the tranny, just to the left of the header heat shield. I blurred out the numbers, but that shows the tranny VIN.
If that matches the other VINs in the car, and your engine looks like this (except in black crackle finish with with a silver spark plug cover, or a spot for one) with DOHC VTEC written on the top and Honda Motor Company written on the bottom, everything is gravy.

OP, the number under the B18C1 on the block, is only a production number, that will not match the VIN plate on the dash.

Re: What should i do?! i have nonmatching vin number
alright guys thanks, i realize that i have no vin number on the transmission, its been taken out, so the number below b18c1 is just the engine number and isn't suppose to match the vin number? If i was to sell this car, will people still buy it?

Re: What should i do?! i have nonmatching vin number
I am not too sure what the codes are for DC integras but i know true old school GSRs have DB2 in the dash vin and DA9 or 6 for non GSR cars.

Older GSR tranny's didn't have vin plates either, they didn't come with vin plates on the tranny until 96 or 97 and newer. I know they at least came out in 97 cause both my 97 gsr's had vin plates on the tranny.
