Re: what octane of fuel in your gsr
All my other cars require 91 so its more habit than anything but an extra 2 bucks everytime I fill up is something I can deal with wasting for the piece of mind in case I get crap gas. Shell, Chevron, or exxon if I have too.
Try filling up my 25 gallon QX56 with premium every 4 days. 85-95 bucks everytime. I spend over 2,000 a month just on gas.

Re: what octane of fuel in your gsr
The reason I was asking is I'm pretty sure the kid that had the car before me put 87 in it everytime. Now I started with 93 everytime but then once I put 87 in by accident. I drove it and it seemed to get better mileage. Now I'm only using 87 and my mileage has gone up 3 miles per gallon and I still get on it all the time. This might not sound like a lot but i drive 50 miles a day round trip to work. I found this to be the same deal in my old ls integra as well. I started out with premium and downgraded to regular and I picked up mileage. Everytime I switch back my car loses mileage but once I put regular back in the car I get it right back.
Note: right now I'm getting 29 miles a gallon on average compared to 25.5 mpg before.

Re: what octane of fuel in your gsr
No buddy!!! It is called having multiple cars and I wish I was exaggerating.
My wife and I travel any where from 850-1600 miles a week each, so it does vary. I fill my Lexus up every 2-3 days at 70+ a pop. Last month was in fact over $2,000.
I live in Florida and work in Louisiana traveling back and forth every other week. This alone is a 1,000 mile round trip every time.

For those of you seeking your 'economy' to determine octane, that is not how it works. Octane is for avoiding detonation. You want to detonate early? Run 87 all day and enjoy your 5$ you save per tank.

The knock sensor on a stock GSR will cause the ECU to retard timing even with 89. The car will have less power and the fuel economy will be reduced. Running lower octane in a GSR does not save money.
The caveat is that highway driving with a low thottle position may do fine on lower octane. Cold temperatures may also reduce the need for premium fuel.

Hell no I don't want another job. I get paid $450 a day and get paid $.55 for every mile I drive. I couldn't find a job making as much as I do for what little work I have to do. IMO I have a gravy job!!!

Wow, if you are that cheap, get yourself a honda fit. 3mpg is barely noteworthy, what is that, like an extra 20-30 miles per tank? Its pocket change man....

Our cars don't require 93 and as long as you used name brand gas, I think your safe. SO how is this being cheap???

And on a 105* day, 91 (California highest grade commonly available) isn't always adequate octane for track use either. My knock sensor kept going off until I put half a tank of 101 octane in with the 91.

Re: what octane of fuel in your gsr
we have 94 octane available from sunoco but petro canada bought sunoco so they now offer it. the have 87 89 91 94 but most other stations only have 91 here. i never fill up with cheap gas because its usually the bottom of the tank and last months mix which is why the cheap places are able to sell it cheaper. on cheap gas i can see as much as 150km less in a single tank. also sunoco\petro canada gets its crude from the prairies so it has very little sulfer.

Re: what octane of fuel in your gsr
I just use 87, get better gas mileage and doesn't give it the extra pep for me to want to gun it. lol
When i turbo it, i'll use 93
I almost always use Chevron or Shell lol
