what to look for when buying an integra?
I am going to go look at a 94 gsr today, anything specific I should check for? I know the bascis to check for on any car, but was wondering if there was anything specific I should be aware of.
The car has 120,000 miles, a brand new transmission, rebuild caliper and new rotors.
I am a little concerned because on the phone the seller mentioned headers, nitake throttlebody and exhaust, and I'm very weary of buying a 'moddified' car.
I plan on using the car for stock class autocrossing, evolution schools, and a few HPDEs. I am thinking I can removed the aftermarket parts, and sell them for some extra cash.
Any suggestions? thanks in advance

Make sure the timing belt has been changed. This is very important.
If you're really concerned about the condition, have a compression check or (preferably) a leakdown test done on the motor. This will give you a good idea of its condition.
Uh. The paint may be oxidizing, Hondas are known to do that.
Other than that and obvious things (leaking fluid) I can't think of anything else off hand..

thanks, I was looking for more recall/failure specific info, but I should have made my question clearer.
I went to check it out, besides the AEM cai, DC 4-2-1, and alarm the owner neglected to mention the stickers, itr valve cover, banners, blue bulbs, spoiler, clear lights, 'slammed' suspension and grapefruit cannon tailpipe.
He seemed negotiable on price, but I don't know about spending so much returing it to stock. I guess I could sell alot of the parts on ebay to recoup costs
I found a mint condition stock CRX for sale in the same parking lot though I think i'll buy it

well i don't necessarily agree wit the whole "everybody who mods their car beats on their car" bit.. cuz most of us ht guys baby the **** out of our cars but push it when we have to ya kno?
Exterior:
- paint on a 94 can be pretty damn worn so see if you can negotiate wit dat
- check for any dents, dings, overspray which may indicate prior accident
Interior:
- look for tears, cigarette burns, if leather than cracks or creases.
- Ask for sec code on stock radio if applicable
under the hood:
- Ask to see any maintenance reciepts like timing belt, alternator, waterpump
- check for matching vin on motor.
As for ur concerns with any recalls, there is a 1800 number for acura of north america or sumpin that you can call wit the vin to check to see if any outstanding recalls exist for that specific car.
hope this helps.

Agreed. I drive my car like an old lady, even with the stuff thats on it.
Check for paint overspray, first of all. On the radiator, undercarriage, muffler, etc. If he says no accidents and there is overspray, chances are its been hit. Check to see if the headlights/taillights are all OEM parts as well.
Make sure everything was installed properly. Look for zip ties, duct tape, etc...if he has mods, make sure the header isnt hanging on by a bolt for example. Do a compression/leakdown test as well to see the condition of the motor. This should cost you ~$100 but its well worth it. Do a search to find the #'s you want to be looking at, most important is all 4 cylinders are similar. Pull the spark plugs and see if hes been running lean/rich, this can also clue you in on motor condition.
Finally, check the wiring for spliced wires. Spliced sensor wires can indicate the car was boosted. Good luck!

never buy a modded car
bring all your tools and a jack, a compression tester and even have a leakdown/compression test on it. be as meticulous as possible and check every nook and cranny. pretend its your virgin wife and youre inspecting for usage.

Check to see if there are any oil leaks--- VTEC solenoid/cam seal... Also, check the radiator for any leaks of any kind/ water pump... just be picky as hell...

so you want to buy a stock 94 gsr and then mod it yourself? Thats a tough one.
well i don't necessarily agree wit the whole "everybody who mods their car beats on their car" bit.. cuz most of us ht guys baby the **** out of our cars but push it when we have to ya kno?
The car checked out pretty good, he had recipts to prove over $3000 in recent work (timing belt, rotors, MC, new trans etc etc). Paint was good (under the stickers)
If I bought it I would need to: remove all the banners/stickers (theres a lot), find new oem taillights, corner lights and bulbs, new muffler, and replace the springs and shocks.
overall not to bad, I think I could leave the header, intake, etc on for the EVO school, and just run in sts, plus if I wanted I could sell them further down the line.
The only thing holding me back is that crx, I was thinking and was pm'ing .rj and I really think it would be better to have a cheaper car to track/etc, plus I could buy the crx with cash.

In addition to all the helpful things that people have already said, from personal experience, you should always be aware of RUST, especially if your car came from up north. My RS was originally purchased and driven in Maryland.
