Default valve cover painting gunk

ok, i did a few searches and didn't find what i was looking for. i am painting my valve cover, and i used some paint remover to get all the old paint off, but this stuff gets really gooey and i can't get it all off. all the original paint is stripped and everything, but i'm not sure how to get all the paint remover gunk off. i used a toothbrush to brush it off, and i filled a trashcan with warm water and tried brushing the stuff off while it was underwater, but its not working very well.

can anyone tell me how to get this crap off? i've gotta go to class this evening and i can't drive without a valve cover. thanks
