valve cover gasket sealant
hey guys...i plan on doing a valve adjustment this weekend and i will also be replacing my valve cover gasket. my friend changed his valve cover not too long ago, but he used a generic brand gasket sealant instead of honda bond. the instructions for the sealant said that it would take about 24 hours for it to cure, and he didnt drive his car till the next day. was that really necessary? is it the same w/ the honda bond or can i just drive it once i'm done?
btw...engine is a b18c1

Re: valve cover gasket sealant (GSR44)
when i did my valve adjustment I got a new gasket and used hondabond... after I was done and put my valve cover back on.. I put away all my tools, put the car back on the ground, took a shower, got some food then used my car.. so maybe it let it sit for 2 hrs then drove my car.. this was about 10K miles ago.. I don't have any leaks or anything problems.. gonna do my valve adjustment in another 5K..

In all honesty, I've never even used any type of sealant on the valve cover gasket. Although it goes against factory recommendations in doing this, I have never had any oil leak out.

There's also this sealant you can buy from Pep Boys. I forgot the name, but it's used for valve covers and such. It comes in several temperature grades indicated by the color. I have the red one. It comes in a toothpaste type dispenser.

I use Honda bond everytime I adjust my valves and I don't wait 24hrs to start my car (although the instructions say you're supposed to). You only need a new valve cover gasket if your old one is in bad shape.

RTV sealant is all you need. Typically Red or Blue for oil apps. Hondabond is preferred by myself but I have used the others.
