I switched my prior car (a Mazda 626) at about 50K miles and didn't have any problems. The only concern is that you may see some oil leakage. If it is severe you can either repair the leaking area or switch back.

For us metrically-challenged, 70000 kilometers = 43495.98 miles.
That's really, really low mileage for a '94! I wouldn't worry about switching to synthetic.

Re: Too late to switch to synthetic?? (Zulu888)
Hey Zulu888,
I've got a '94 VTEC too. I purchased it second hand about 6months ago ... it had 80,000kms. At my first oil change I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic (it had previouly used Honda stuff). I've noticed that I seem to lose a little bit of oil every month or so (probably drops to 3/4 on the dip stick) and I just top it up. Not sure where its going ..have noticed a little oil under the car occasionally (but not much) so I assume I'm probably burning a bit. The car runs fine though and I'll continue to use Mobil 1 (and check the level regularly!!)

Re: Too late to switch to synthetic?? (Zulu888)
I just switched to Mobile 1 at 99,500 miles on my '95 Teg. Haven't noticed any leaks or other odd things yet... I had already noticed it losing a slight bit of oil before oil changes quite a while back though. Now, guess I'm going to have to start doing the change myself now that it costs me almost twice as much with Mobile 1

changing from conventional to synthetic oil isnt bad at all, even at a high mileage engine. you should beware of leaking seals after you switch to synthetic since synthetic oils has different additives and usually does more harm to the rubber seals in the engine compred to conventional oils, but theres only a slight chance of that happening so go for it.

I had a leak around my head and switched to synthetic at 90K miles and surprisingly the leak quit?!?! dunno if it was the oil or not?!?
