Symptons of Bad Engine Mounts? Suspension?
Can anyone provide me some of the common symptons of bad engine mounts? Or tranny mounts (if there are any). I'm not much of a car person.
My issue:
My car makes a noise...like something is loose. I hear it most when my car is "jerking" or is in motion when I'm taking off. Its a 97 GS manual tranny.
At first I thought it had something to do with my shocks since it was lowered but I've since put back the OEMS so its at stock height now and the noise is still present. It seems to be coming from the passenger side area. I have no idea what it is but its freaken annoying. I hear it most when its cold. We've recently had summer like weather here in cali and I rarely heard that annoying noise.
The noise itself is something that is tough to accuratly describe. Its something like larger pieces of metal rubbing together or coming in contact. the car itself runs fine, nothing mechanically wrong so I'm guessing its either mounts or the suspension?
Any guesses?

if ur hearing it when you give the car gas or when you hit the breaks its a bad motor mount. the engine is rocking back and forth due to play or looseness in the mount.

BTW, is changing the mounts something I can do or should I take it to the shop?
What's the estimated cost for the repairs?

Its easy. Get good junkyard/used mounts or buy some new ones from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or www.bernardiparts.com or www.hondapartsunlimited.com.
Or autozone. The Honda stuff is better and it's around $10-20 more usually (with shipping).
It's easy to replace most mounts. It's all just nuts and bolts. Support the engine/trans if needed. Remove, replace, enjoy. Buy a haynes manual for assistance. Much cheaper than going to a shop.
Find out which one(s) are bad before replacing, obviously. Look for cracks and missing rubber.
However, I'm not convinced that this is mounts. Does the car shake when you acclerate? Is it only when you take off? Try downshifting and see what happens. It may be clutch chatter if it vibrates when you take off but not when you downshift.
Try going to a shop to have that diagnosed. You don't need to nessecarily have it fixed there...but diagnose it at a good shop so you're not chasing ghosts.

The majority of the annoying noise comes from the right side of the car (Passenger side) which is why I thought my right shock was done.

Read my edited post. There are also mounts on the passenger side. So it may still be a mount.

just took it to my local acura/honda shop and he doubts its my engine mounts. If anything, it might have something to do with my suspension. He's going to check it out a little more thoroughly tomorrow when I bring in the car.

Re: Symptons of Bad Engine Mounts? Suspension?
After all these freaken months! It ended up being a lose bolt that connected to the control arm. Dude just tightened it and the noise is gone. That explains why the noise wasn't present when it was raining.
