switching to synthetic?....
i have a 90 da gs and was thinking about switching to synthetic to have my engine run longer. i do drive pretty rough sometimes so i would think it is a smart move. my car has about 85000 miles.
my question is , is there anything special i need to do before switching? anything i need to worry about? or is it just simply like doing an oil change?

I don't want to tell you to search, but it might be helpful.
Switching to synthetic oil can be done at any time in the engine's life cycle. Things you want to realize however are:
Synth is engineered to lubricate more efficiently, that being said, it can leak out of places that ordinary dino oil would not, expecially if the engine is a bit older.
More expensive to do an oil change
Changes can, and should be more infrequent.

I've heard the same as above. I switched my 92 Toyota Corolla over to synthetic at about 110,000 and had no problems with losing oil though. So I don't know what to say about that.
But just change it like a normal oil change. Like said above, it increases the cost of an oil change, but it may be worth it if it keeps your engine running longer.

Re: switching to synthetic?.... (stareatsun)
I work at a oil change place (like jiffy lube) and a mobil representative came and talked to us about all of their oils. He said "yes synthetic will cause leaks ON ENGINES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN MAINTAINED WELL. Synthetic has the added detergents which CLEAN out all of the deposits and **** that are blocking the oil from leaking from the gaskets. If the motor was well maintained, then there shouldnt be any deposits in which the synthetic detergents will clean out...and leak.

Re: switching to synthetic?.... (RIP Indian Larry)
in my ef si i switched to synthetic at almost 300k! doesn't burn anymore than it used to but my car was babied before me too.
but i was wonderin the same thing about the gs-r i just bought.. all dealer maintained, bought it from an older guy i work with..
it had a new bottom end put in at 80k due to oil consumption..
has 140 on it now.. should i switch to mobil one??
