Re: Subframe Tearout (94civicEX)
Well daym. Now I am begining to worry about the monster rearsway bar I have now. Seems really odd that it tore after 5-6 yrs. I had the exact same set up as you until this year and never had an issue also. My vote is still the ITR subframe. I think they are less than 200.

The cost of putting it on will be absolutely outrageous though.

If it's not that expensive I might look into that option.

Re: (94civicEX)
after you get it fixed I suggest you get the comptech tiebar. it is a bit pricey at $219 but its designed to work in combination with the sway bar.

I called a few local body shops and they all came in at $369-$4-- to install a crossmember. To me it is not that much to spend $600 or so on a crossmember/installation that you will no longer have to worry about. Just my .02. Good luck and keep thisthread posted on what you do.

I actually spoke with an engineer at Comptech and showed him the ASR brace. We think that the ASR brace will be better for my current situation.

You wouldn't worry about the alignment of the new crossmembers? That's not to shabby really.

Well I pulled off the bar, so at least I can drive it.
So what happened was it tore out the welded nut, then the bar wanted to get pulled down, it couldn't so it started to tear it from the top and buckle at the bottom.
Here is the only pic that came out, I have to raise it up again:

Re: (94civicEX)
By the looks of that picture it seems that there is an extra hole. The extra hole I see is really close to the other and I bet that helped the cross member fail. Of course this is all in my opinion.

Where did the bottom bolt go?

Re: (94civicEX)
The bracket was screwed into the chassis through the middle of the 3 holes in the bracket. Then the upper bolt went through the top hole in the D-bracket and screwed into the chassis. The bottom bolt went through the lower hole of the D-bracket but it didn't go through to the chassis. Much in the same way that the Comptech tiebar attachs to the chassis minus the LCA bolt.
If you look in the link here, you'll see it.

I've gotta call Comptech back tomorrow.
Also, anyone with past experience of having their subframe rewelded please let me know how much it cost, etc.

I wish it were that easy, I have no idea who to take it to in this area if I decide to do a new subframe.

Any body shop worth a chit will be able to do it.

I definitely need to go somewhere with a frame alignment machine.
