My cheap eBay one worked great except for the fact that it wouldn't go into first unless the car was at a complete and full stop without mad crazy grinding, and it took about 5 minutes to try to get it into reverse, and it broke after 4 months.

Then I got my DC sports shifter w/dc **** and ES bushings. Best shifter ever.

hate to throw in something negative, but for you guys with the short shifters....

shiftin quickly with a short shifter, doesnt that reduce the life of your synchros? i read that somewhere but i cant remember where, so i dunno how much truth there is to that.

Don't spend $30 on an ebay short shifter when you can spend $60 and get one like B&M that won't break.

B&M are good shifters.

For the most part, you get what you pay for.

I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone have this issue.
So it probably does affect the tranny, but no more than simple
wear so its not influential

Myth-

Guy ***** up tranny, blames short shifter instead of his shitty driving and thus we have the "short shifters screw up your tranny" myth.

Too much effort IMHO, plus you would still have that OEM insert at the bottom. Sealed bearings on quality short shifters are better than the factory insert w/ the o-rings, IMHO.

shifters don't break synchros. crappy drivers do.

All DC shifters are the same.

I had a short shifter in my R, but switched it out for the stock one. But before I put it in, I replaced the bushings with ES. That made a whole world of difference, as my shifts felt very crisp and clean. Short shifter really won't make any noticable difference, anyway. Besides, you want less of a gap between the steering wheel and the shifter, so the stock unit worked fine for me.

And about this myth that it messes up the synchros...you guys are right that it's the driver's fault, but a car with a short shifter does have a less margin of error when shifting, so even though it is the driver's fault for the premature wear, the shifter is not helping, either.

Best shifter, though, is my stock S2k.

Actually I went with a ITR linkage and shifter lever complete for my 91 Teg. I put the prothane shifter bushing in and man this thing's great. Its dual bent, sits closely to you, more of a gated feel and its tight. No more of that play while in gear or neutral. Plus its OEM =] Anyway just thought I'd throw that out there.

That's the same exact one I got on ebay for about the same price that suposedly came from an apex-i dealer. Its also identacle to the B&M shifter I've seen as well.

for $35, the Evasive Motorsports shifter works just fine for me. although i think i'd like to try a weighted shift **** like the Skunk2 [but not willing to pay that much].

but this thing is just sweet: tallest shifter evar!
i like the idea. get that **** up there where you can reach it! same idea as the recent Si hatch shifter...
