Default Scan tool issue

Hey guys, I'm not sure where else to post this, but I'm hoping you guys can help me. I have a 99 LS with a 99 JDM ITR Swap. Both were OBD-II. I recently purchased a scan tool (www.autoenginuity.com) and received it today but I'm having problems getting it to connect. Could it be that the engine/ecu aren't out of the original body or that the JDM OBD doesn't communicate with the USDM OBD system? I've sent an email to the scan tool manufacture, but was thinking someone on honda tech could help me out in the mean time.

Thanks

Have you tried the paper clip method? Don't know about the communication protocol.

are u saying the scan tool doesn't power on when it connects to the obdII connector? if it doesn't power up check your fuses. probably no power going ot the connector...some cars use the cig lighter fuse to power...

I believe the tool itself is fine, it's just having a problem communicating with the ecu. I'm not using it to just pull codes, for a school project we're trying to calculate horsepower, torque, brake specific fuel consumption, brake mean effective pressures, things like that.
I forget the number on the ecu, but it's the 99JDM ITR ECU.

Heres whats happening, it says its found the OBDII port, but it won't connect.

my civic with a jdm itrr was the same way. the scan tools dont work. the way the guy at my local speed shop explained it was: yeah its obd2 but its not real obd2. it reads more like obd1.

there by i always used the paper clip method.

i would assume it should work, i mean that is WHY they changed the connections on ALL CARS(most) back in 96 so it should work, or was it so to only have one scan tooL?

the jdm ecu's arent obd2 persay... you would need a 99-00 usdm itr ecu with the immobilizer removed to be able to use that tool on your car
