Default safe for 87 octane gas?

alright so i have always put 91 octane in my car, its a 95 gs-r. with gas prices being over 2 bucks a gallon, i cant afford it, im already in debt. does anyone just use 87 in their car? if im not redlining it or anything i dont see why it would matter too much. i would be fine driving on 87 octane right?

what's the difference between 87 and 91? $2 a tank? you can't afford that? if that's the case i would park it.

factory recommended octane is 91 for the gsr/itr.

Gasoline with an octane number lower than 91 may be used, with reduced performance.

no s*it sherlock....but the difference in PRICE for a FULL tank between 87 and 91 is around $2 (figuring a 10 gallon fillup and that 87 is 20 cents less a gallon)

Hey fivespeedintegra, way to take a simple question and blow it out of proportion.

Do you practice being an ***, or does it jsut come naturally?

in cases like this when someone is concerned over spending $2 extra on a tank of gas, i guess you could say it's natural, otherwise i'm pretty level headed and calm

hehe, no 93, that sucks. 93 is everywhere, and if you go to 76, they have 100 (race fuel)!!!!

knock sensor would retard your timing. I wouldnt be filling up with 86-87 octane for any long period though.

I think hes just a bit frustrated by the fact that people don't bother to read things carefully anymore

But yeah, 87 is fine for temp use, just don't push it, and as stated above, its only a 2 dollar difference per tank.

dude, try running your with 87 and see if you feel a difference i dont think you'll really feel anything but in the long run it will effect the performanc eof you teg. with the high compression you need higher octane for the car to run right. its only like $2 diff a tank, just sacriface a cup of starbucks for one day for your car.

to make you feel better, my car drinks about 17 gallons of 91 a week and i only get a little over 300 miles.

True. I would highly advice that you do not fill your GSR (b18c1) with any octane lower than Honda specifications. Also, if you have cam gears and have adjusted your timing, then you'd most likely want octane greater than 91.

Detonation = Bad.

Just fill up 50 miles early instead, you won't even notice the extra $2 bucks every two weeks you spend

Just in case you don't notice, 91 is the worst case scenario for your car to run safe without detonation. If you live in non-desert heat weather or have retarded timing you will be fine with 87.

I would say it is fine since gsr has a knock sensor, it will retard your timing if it is not good.

You can safely use 87 Oct gas if your internals are stock and you do not push the car hard. Drive like Grand Ma and you will save on the cost of gas by getting better gas milage because your not flooring it. Double bonus. Better gas mailage with driving habit change and 87's cheaper.

There you go.

87 made my car act like a spastic clown, with only an exhaust (no internals at the time).

if i really had no money, i'd go to midgrade.
