it was a sad, sad day for my DB2
Yo looks like that T-belt broke dawg!!
So i got this gs-r recently, and had to replace a drive belt. that usually means you gotta replace the t belt. now, i didnt have the knowledge to do that at the time, but was planning on doing the job in the next few weeks. but then the worst happened. i was at a light on my way to work, went to take off and my car didnt move. i dont know when the belt broke during my time at the light, cause i had my music up loud. i went up hill to get to the intersection so i know it wasnt then. anyways im 99% sure i have bent valves. that 1% is just a wish and a prayer. needless to say im F'd for the time being.
plans are to get a b16 head and drop my cams in i guess. dont really have alot of cash. car is at my work, which lucky enough for me is a honda dealership. but im just a lowly lot porter.

Oh god no! Not your DB2!
For what its worth. I have heard stories of people replacing the belt and having it just work. Obviously do not crank the motor over at all until you do the belt.

If the belt broke when idling, [sounds like it] then there is a better then 50/50 chance that no damage was done, I have seen Honda engines where belt has broken at idel and even lower RPMs when driving where no damage was done.

my belt broke on the freeway at 70 -75 mph, i could of sworn i had bent vavles , got her a new belt re-timed her.....started her up and bam, still running a year later dont lose faith bro,

well when it broke i had no idea what happened. i thought i stalled the car or something, so i cranked it and no start. so then i checked for spark, again cranking it over. a buddy noticed the cams weren't spinning so i immediately knew i had screwed my self by cranking it so much. im sure it was fine, but im probly done for now.

I think the b16 cams are a bit better than the b17 but the head casting should be the same, Like said above you still have a good chance of no valves bent, although you can do a leak down test to confirm but i would take the head off and have it inspected! best to be safe than sorry, its not that hard nor complicated to pull the head but im not saying its easy! you can try doing a leak down test first and if you got good results than put a new timing belt and water pump and anything else like the oil pump and start it up, if you dont get good leak down test results than pull that sucker off and rebuild it, dont buy a used head and put it on and find out the head is bad! a few valves and a valve job will run you at least 350 get a oem hg and arp head studs to be safe and re torque the head.

some techs at my work told me to just get it all tdc, put the belt on and fire it up, and if its good get it all together, and if its not.. well i guess i'll do a leakdown test and identify which valves will need replacing. it sucks i would rather have the whole head built since im having it machined, but cant really afford that. so for now worst case scenario i will go with:
OE timing belt- $50 from the dealership i work at.
Head gasket - price unknown atm..
Water pump
crank seal (my belt had oil on it)
possibly oil pump if i have the time and money
new valves and machine work.
and do i really need new head studs? If my oem studs will work I'd rather save my money. this will probably cost me a thousand and i work part time at minimum wage.

Report back and repost your findings after disassembely of your conponments.
GL dude as I am almost positive you did not have any interference with your engine.
expecially if you didnt hear any interference as you sat there trying to start it after the failure.
non of mine broke while idling either.
one at 25 mph
one at 35 mph

honda head bolts are fine and some would say better the second torque around.
they are fine to re-use if not over streatched, unless you have goals for more cylinder pressures in the future which you shouldnt cause thats a rare beast. All your above steps are what you should do.
Now go do the right thing and keep that factory DOHC VTEC car on the road!

I'd definitely just put the new belt on first and check it out. I wouldn't worry about the oil pump. Even with all that cranking, it is very possible that there is no damage done to the engine.

so i got it all apart, but forgot to set everything up to TDC first so it was a small pain to do it after the fact.
here is the new OEM honda timing belt installed.
all together!
it fired right up no bent valves!!!! so lucky. im really glad i dont have to deal with that right now as this is my DD. and i still gotta pay the loan off...
one issue was i couldnt get any more tension out of the alternator, and the belt is squealing like crazy...
so idk what to do about that.
and i didnt do the water pump because we didnt have any in parts and my boss wanted the car together and out today. so i dunno if i should tear into it again or just wait till it shows signs of failure... what do you guys think?

Now its back together I would just not worry about the water pump. It would be cool to rip it apart and do it. But I would probably just call it a day. As for the belt squeal its hard to say.

congrats, just check the tension of the belt if it needs tightening do so, trying to remain in spec.

I was goin to say you shouldn't worry and just put a new timing belt, it will fire right up with no problems. Speaking from experience.

yea once i get some free time im down.
and yea i think ill call it a day on the WP.
ive heard they normally replace it with the belt cause its right there.
there was also alot of gunk and grease under the lower cover, so it looks like my front main seal was leaky.

wow i snapped my timing belt on my B20V DC4 and i bent 8 valves and one valve was completely bent to the point when i took it off it broke in half

Even with belt stretch you should still have adjustment left, if not get a belt that is 1/2" shorter.
Wait till the pump shows signs of failure before replacing it, it could easily last till you need to replace the timing belt again.
I have a 94 Integra I got brand new in 93, dealer has told me twice I should replace the water pump when I was having a new timing belt installed, the car has been drag raced and autocrossed since I got it, been 1/2 way across Canada twice, the 600km trip to the coast and back at least twice a year, winter and summer, and the original stock water pump is still working just fine, 18 years and counting.
