Rust and bondo?!

Rust and bondo?!
Okay so I got a 2000 Acura integra that I adore, and it's in mint shape besides the fact that there's a hole in one QP and the other one is just about there. I was just wondering what my options were, I'm kinda new to the car scene and don't knew very much yet. My original plan was gunna get a buddy to help me sand it down, bondo it, and cover up paint. I love the car but I don't got much $$$$, any suggestions?

That is all caused by the Rear Wheel Arch Protectors, #10... http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...ystemcomp=List All&vinnoT=&trim=&trans=&view=normal
The correct way to repair it is to cut it out and replace with new metal, the best way, [most expensive] is to replace the complete quarter panel, #3/#6... http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...ystemcomp=List All&vinnoT=&trim=&trans=&view=normal
Looks like your arch protectors are already pulled, [just too late]. 94

The arch protectors are not the sole reason for quarter rust. I have even had civic and integras where other parts of the quarters were rusted and the arches looked new underneath. But regardless, the quarters will need to be cut out and patched and the door replaced. It's a lot of work to do it right. Careful application of good quality seam sealer and protecting the backside of the repair are paramount to keeping it rust free after a repair.

Re: Rust and bondo?!
Every Integra I have seen with rust was due to the arch protectors, we also do all the body shops in town, [A/C recovery/recharge] and they say the same thing.
The problem is the arch protectors hold dirt and moisture up against the paint and unpainted inside of the lip.
Pull the arch protector off any Integra and you will find rust, at least on the inside of the lip, and that is where it starts. 94

My first Honda was an 89 accord. The quarters began rusting in 97. I started taking the arch protectors off at that time on friends and family's new civic and integras, guess what...they still rusted just the same. It's the nature of the beast. Still think the arch protectors are bad of course but not the sole reason for this rust. One of my body shops said the seam sealer becomes spongy and holds water and also cracks and deteriorates. I now use chainsaw bar oil and motorcycle chain wax to keeps the spot welded seams from getting water in after a repair and it has been working great.

Cost depends on the route you decide to take. Bondo fill and paint will be the cheapest, but will also yeild the poorest results (in looks and longevity of repair).
There aren't any quarter panel patch panels for these cars. I have the same issues on my car and have been flirting with the idea of having a custom bike shop make some panels for it, but have not had a price quote yet.
Lastly are complete quarter panel replacements. Of course you could buy the whole thing and just use what you need, but I believe they're about 630 each. That's just the cost of the panels, so effectively to repair the rust you may have spent more on the repair then the car would be worth.
Seems quarter panels have come down in cost, thought they used to be 900.

Re: Rust and bondo?!
That rust is caused by the rear squirter leaking at the gasket and running down then headliner down to the quarter where it sits. Bet if you drop the rear headliner down it will be damp or show signs of water. Handful of friends teg including myself all had this same problem. I got panels from the junkyard and off parts cars cut and welded to fix mine. Por15, then sikaflex around the seam of the new panel from the inside then all coated with undercoat. Have had no problems. The key as always is to get every single bit of rust out for repair or your just wasting time as it will come back.

Re: Rust and bondo?!
i have discoved a bit of rust where the rear wheel arch meets the jack point area(side skirts must have collected dirt there. I will be taking an angle grinder to it and cutting it out then welding in new metal i don't car how it looks beacause track car but i'm estimating 200$ per hole.

So this would most likely be in the 4 figure range at a body shop? I'm starting to get the feeling I'd be better off just selling and getting a new car haha.
