Default A really strange small water leak in my dc2 trunk area...

umm, well as of today i was cleaning everything out of my integra, fully detialing. When i took out the spare tire and jack and all, i notice there was water in there. strange enough it not from the tail lights because they have never been removed from the car. Where could it come from? It really small leak too.

I know in my 4door it leaks from the seal around the trunk when it rains or I wash it.

the trunk seal you mean ? umm mines looks fairly new though. Any how i can see the dirt or some sort running down under the spare tire. it seems like it coming somewhere under them panels on the right side. could it be from the seal around the top hats where the struts are mounted ? this is weird though!

i don't know about dc's but on da's there's a sunroof drain hose that runs to the trunk. and it gets clogged up and leaks into the trunk. so you might want to check that out

I do water leak diag. at work quite a bit and the best way is to gut the interior and spray down the car with a high pressure hose and hope to see a water trail you can follow to the cause of the leak.

I vote trunk seal then. I washed my car yesterday and it got a huge puddle just from that. It 'looks' fine to me, but that doesn't mean anything.

Tail lights can leak even if they've never been removed from the car.

i have the same leak in my dc2 as well, just get an old towel to leave down there as a sponge. my eg hatch had the same leak as well, and i even had that pressure vent down there sealed off because i competed in usaci, and it still leaked

Do your taillights look like fish tanks (water filled up inside the lenses)? If so, then most likely water is getting in around the edges of the red lenses, and not through the taillight seal. If that is the case then you can run some silicone sealant around the edges of the lenses.

Strip out those panels from the rear of the car, get inside the car and close it up and have someone spray water over the rear of the car, or set up a lawn sprinkler to spray onto the car, and see if you can see where the water is coming in.

How much water did you find in there, like just a little wetness, or like a swimming pool in your spare tire well?

<-- used to have a swimming pool, which froze one winter

I have a 96 LS that has a trunk leak too, and I found the source of it to be a body seam that cracked open. The crack is underneath the rear bumper valance, right beside the driver's side tail light. I pulled off the valance and noticed a little crack in the putty stuff that is used to seal the body seam, and I sealed that up and it's much better now.

I think I may have that problem, as well. I fixed my trunk leak a couple years ago that was coming from the tail lights, but I saw some moisture in there a few weeks ago and I think it may have been a gap in the seam sealant.
