check your exhaust, and the part that connects to your headers may be those

Check your exhaust and your cat. Maybe there is a bolt that is loose causing the rattle.

Check the bolts between the header and cat, mine rattled also around 2.5-3k rpm and that's what it was (long story short, the bolts bent and stretched causing the header to come a little loose from the cat, but yours might just be loose).

Default 99 gsr

i had the same problem with my 99 gsr at about 60,000k. it was the piece between the header and the cat. honda said it happens sometimes if you live in the northeast due to salt used on the roads in the winter. i replaced the entire exhaust system for not much more than what honda wanted for just that piece (a piece).

i took out all the heat sheild and the header heat sheild and test it, same problem. it sound like its coming from the manifold bolt. i hand tight them and still same problem. at 3000 it sound like a turbo.

I had an extremely annoying rattle at ~3200rpm... could only hear it when accelerating slowly through 1st and 2nd. Heat shield was loose.

had the same problem, but i figured out the problem to late.. it was a bracket they call the flange... its right behind the engine where the headers connect to the cat.. well on mine it ripped off n made a hole on my headers.. whacckk...
