ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
So I had some Sunoco 110 leaded race fuel wasting from my bike. I figured what the hell, through it in the car for a nice smelling drive to the beach. Not long afterwards my CEL came on, car has never had it come on before. I have tried several times to pull the code with no luck. When I jump the connector, I turn the key on and the CEL lights up as normal, makes a click noise and shuts off. I tried resetting the ECU in frustration, and the light didn't come on afterwards with about 45 minutes of run time. That was last night, this morning it came on right after I started it up. Still can't pull a code... What the hell is going on?lol Would runing race fuel cause the CEL to come on or is it most likely something else? Thanks for any input! Kyle

Also I have headers, no cat, and a stock tube with a cone K&N.. That has been exactly the same for over a month and I never got the CEl before. It's a 91 integra GS. Please, I'm going crazy.lol

Wow, that really helps my problem, doesn't it.? I know the deal about race fuel, I figured something interesting would happen. My posts on this site are few, and I am new to these all computer engines(which no one seems to be interested in educating anyone about). Don't let that fool you, about what I know and don't know. Do you know who Charles Darwin was, or what he was about, I do. If you reply again, make it something useful.

My second post I added that I didn't have a cat... ran fine with no CEl for the past month. A kid I know said he has heard of leaded fuel frying O2 sensors.. If that were the case I'm chipping anyway.
Any ideas on why I can't even get anything when trying to pull a code?

Would sort of depend of the leaded/O2 mode of failure.
I'd guess that running w/o a cat you'd only be using the primary O2.
For testing purposes I'd try swapping the O2 in the car for a known good piece, and see if the cel lights up again.

ok.lol I don't think everyone could point out what is really bugging me. I know something may be wrong, I'm going insane because I can't run a diagnostic like I should be able to. Pretend I never told all of you I ran race fuel. I have a CEL on, when I try running the code I get nothing, the light comes on then just shuts off like any other startup. Any ideas as to why I can't get a code????

ok we know you dont have a cat now, but dont you still have o2 sensors installed? leaded gas would kill the sensor and the cat if you had one. howare you trying to pull the code? with a scanner or the paperclip trick?

Thank you for catching that guys!!! Actually I found this out about 45 minutes ago when I read a service manual which covered my year specifically.lol My problem is not solved tho =l I took off my kick panel and am looking all over the ECU but can't find a flashing light anywhere when I try to jump the harness =l Anyone know of an Auto parts store actually has a computer to read my year?
Much appreciated, Kyle

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
If the problem happened directly after you ran the leaded race gas, it's most likely your o2 sensor(s) that fouled out. Is your car missfiring a little or pulling timing when you run through the rpm band? You might be getting some sort of random missfire code (P0300 on OBD-II) from your spark plugs getting fouled out as well. If you let your car sit and idle too long or you didn't lower the gap on your plugs w/ the leaded racegas, they can foul out and/or cause the car to missfire. I know this from personal experience, because I run C16 in my Evo, but I'm tuned for it and don't have o2 sensors, since I'm on a standalone.
By the way, nothing interesting would happen to your car if you run race gas in a car that's not tuned for it. If anything, your car will lose power, because running higher octane gas without tuning for it usually causes your car to run rich.

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
Thanks, I know the ups and downs of race fuel. Running race fuel on a pump gas compression, untuned engine is a disadvantage for sure, I just did it because I had it.. I am OBD0... what I need to know is how to pull the code. It probably isn't going to lie to me about what is wrong with it. Where is the LED light that is supposedly on my ECU??

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
Update: Went out and drove a few minutes to check the CEL would come on. It did, I parked and shut it off and tried to jump harness to get the code. I still could not find any blinking light coming from the ECU, the CEL was not giving me a code either. I pulled the O2 sensor, ACCIDENTLY STARTED CAR WITH HARNESS JUMPER IN PULLED WIRE A COUPLE OF SECONDS LATER, drove around forever and never got a CEL, I plugged the O2 sensor back in and still haven't got the CEL in. This thing is driving me nutz, Please help.lol

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
I really dont think you have to jump the wire with obd0. I never had to with my pr3. There should be a sight glass in the middle of the ecu that will blink red.

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
Yeah, every manual says to jump the harness... There is no window, or even light visible from the top, bottom, sides or front of the ECU for sure.. There is to vent slats in the top right corner of the ECU, but no light comes from it.. Now I couldn't even get the CEL to come on, did i fry this thing or something?

Re: ran race fuel, CEL is now on, can't pull a code
Well, You can't say that for sure... If I could FIGURE OUT HOW TO PULL A CODE OFF MY ECU, I would know what I need. Leaded fuel will not clog a fuel filter. I do not have a cat. Possibly cuold fry the O2 sensor, earlier I unplugged it and couldn't trip the CEL. plugged it back in and still didn't get a CEL again...
