Default Races tonight, will open cat gain power?

I'm currently tuned lsvtec, but I'm tuned on stock piping. Would running open cat give any real gains, not the paper 2-3 hp.Is it worth doing for the night? And I know removing the cat will yield more, but I'm in cali, and the cops would end my career if they found no cat.

Oh man are you racing Turretto for pink slips? Give me a break, take it to the track. I'd say keep the CATS off so you gain .0000004380293843 HP and make ZERO difference on your race. Therefore you can end up in jail sooner and make the streets safer for the rest of us. Win-win!

i know all you old timers are quietly creeping here in shock.

ill repeat whats been said many times.

taking out the cat will change exhaust flow. which in turn change fuel requirement.

your engine wont like it to put it in simple words. once tuned you cant change any components without retuning it

Taking off the cat will not make that big of a difference to get re tunned.

If that was the case then every temp change or slight altitude change would require a re tune.

Either way it's not really gonna make a difference. It's essential a stock motor from the information given.

It did for me.
If hes running open loop it will.
Even changing intake pipe will change fueling.

Better driving will yield you more gain that running no exhaust... It's loud, annoying and won't really help.

Why would you run open loop?

Thread jack!!! lol .. So while OP plays with ricer boys out in the Cali back roads I actually have a valid question in regards to running an open cat.

Does running an open cat improve mpg's ?? Reason I'm asking is becuase the cat on my Integra is going bad too, amongst other things :-/... While I read that replacing it with a high flow cat (aka test pipe) also improves mgs's, others say it doesnt. So whats the truth behind that ? Anybody run a test pipe and lose/gain mgs?? Also at a price stand point I would much rather spend 35 bucks on a test pipe, oppose to 200 plus on a new cat.

...the ECU goes into open loop any time the car is not at constant throttle after being warmed up, with all relevant sensors and sensor checks working.

Crack the throttle beyond about 20%...now you're in open loop.

Start the car? Open loop till it warms up.

Open loop isn't necessarily something you run on purpose.

But to answer his question, it will make power....but not as much as most people think. Figure between 1-5HP...depending on the rest of the setup.

HP gains from test pipes come from motors that move a ton of exhaust. Not typically your street setup NA B series.

There may be negligible gains in MPG. But your exhaust will sound exponentially more dumb. Buy a cat. A high flow cat is neither a test pipe nor expensive. A used OEM cat is cheap and it bolts right up.

I have one de-catted track car and an open header dirt track car. My clothes stink like fuel just from moving either one out onto the drive way or 5ft in any direction. Not worth it for a DD. I gotta be fresh.

Damn I asked a simple question and it turns into a war? I was just curious if it would effect my tune exponentially. That's what I was getting at. Either way I refilled my molecule reactor with nitrogen and when m my vtec cracks now I feel like I'm punched in the chest. Thanks for turning my yes or no question into a debate about negligible power gains. GAINS ARE GAINS!
