Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
Well my ls head is done for so I'm trying to make this decision.
I know a guy with 5 GSR heads for $450 a piece. But then my buddy has a full B18a1 with YS1 trans for $500.
So I either do ls/vtec or cammed b18 like before... Opinions?

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
I'm really leaning towars ls/vtec, but then I read this
Quote:
Now as for parts you will need with either motor. These are NEEDS not WANTS. They are a part of either build and will not be listed in the motors simply because we will assume you will get them.
1. New rod and main bearings. Please dont ask what kind ya need. they are different for every motor. 2. New head gasket, Oil pan gasket, rear main seal, Oil return gasket, oil filter
3. Thrust washers
4. fittings for running the external oil line.
5. You must have the entire rotating assembly balanced!!!!!!!
6. New VTEC Water pump.
7. New VTEC oil pump.
8. New VTEC Timing belt.
9. BE SURE TO MATCH THE WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT. VTEC=VTEC and Non-vtec=Non-vtec. otherwise your car will
die a very painfull death.!
10. We both prefer ARP bolts to stock. Stock is usable but ARP is cheap insurance.
I REALLY REALLY don't feel like cracking open the bottom end, is this really necessary?

Yezzir. I'm doing springs/retainers and valves in the head. Only thing left is to weld the one galley, wire everything up, change the water pump, and install it. I might be doing pistons, and arp rod bolts though...

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
Ok so here's the plan! If the guy still has this head, I am buying his FULLY BUILT ls head, minus cams, but that's ok because I have 301's for it, I'm gonna slap that on to get the car running while I'll get all the parts I need to build the bottom end and complete the ls/vtec, that way when I pull the motor it will only take me a day to put it all together and put it back in!!
Even if he doesn't have that head I'm just going to buy another ls head and throw my cams in it and drive it like that till I get everything for my full ls/vtec build.

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
depending on how built you build the bottom end, i hope you (or your parents) have some good deep pockets. i didnt think it was going to take what it took me to do it all but ****, 7000$ later (before turbo kit) and its finally one rotating assembly.
good luck on your build man. but, if you already bought a GSR head, why go back to a ls head and not continue with the ls/v??

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
Just to get the car running ASAP, I'm probably gonna buy another LS bottom end so I can build the whole motor while I drive the car, so it will just be a quick "out with the old in with the new" kinda deal. And I priced everything out already, won't even break $1k (not including head already bought.

I hope you're kidding around. Someone mislead you. Jeff Evan's does a built bottom end for 2,400. You supply block and crank plus mains. All assembled balanced and ready to go. For 1,100 more he does the same build but a sleeved 84mm motor.

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
I was wondering the same thing lol I guess he means paying for it to be fixed everytime it broke?
Well now I will not have to worry about funding for this build. I just posted up a for sale thread on DSMtalk parting out my 11second talon. I might as well go all out and do a completely built head/motor... It was about time I got out of the DSM game anyway. It was such a b1tch.

Hahah yessir, I don't think I would have converted if it wasn't for getting the car for free. If I didn't get it for free I would still have my ranger as a daily lol

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
Thanks dave! ^^
I am, eventually, that's why I plan on using GSR pistons for 10.0:1 comp. ratio. I would rather have the ls comp. ratio, but apparently ls pistons are poo. If I do happen to sell everything from the dsm, then I'll be going lsvt right away.

Re: PROJECT: Free Integra aka DirtyDA
Does anyone know where I can get the red type r valve cover paint, is there a rattle can type? Or does it have to be powder coated for that texture red?
