popping noise braking = steering rack cylinder end replacement
last week i noticed some popping noises coming from the front passenger side during braking and acceleration. no noises when turning, so that rules the axle out.
so, i jacked the car up... and noticed a bit of play on the passenger wheel front to back. so, i figure... tie rod end. so, i slap a new one on. the noise is still there, as is the play in the wheel.
so, i checked the driver side... it's fine. gotta be in the inner tie rod joint, then. so, i go back to passenger side and push the boot back. inner joint is fine. no play in it....
but, i can see the whole shaft moving. great... gotta be the end bushing. sure enough, acura calls it the cylinder end. $19 part.
anyone ever replaced it?
based on the helms diagrams, it appears that i can remove both the outer and inner joints, then unscrew the end from the rack. screw in the new end and stake it. thankfully the end seal is farther up in the rack, so no worries about fluid change.
