Never had it happen to me, but I found the following suggestions via Google:

- Wait and let it burn off on it's own.
- Scrape it off with a hard plastic putty knife.
- Burn it off (someone got Meineke to do it for them).
- Use spray oven cleaner (don't get it on anything besides the exhaust pipe! it's very corrosive.).

maybe i should run open header in the mean time... i dont want to be breathing that plastic in and theres a good mess melted on there

probably bout the size of a cut open tennis ball and layed flat so theres a good amount of it.

damnit my bolts are semi seized this is going to take so much effort

how long does it take to burn off? god damnit

as for cleaners i have googone and a environment safe DEGREASER would those work? i also have a scruff pad but i'd like to not scratch the hell outta my exhaust if i dont nee dto

Goo Gone and degreaser won't help.

It takes weeks to burn off (again, from my Google search).

You might want to use a razor blade to scrape off the top few layers and then let it burn the rest off.

Just removing it isn't going to help at all though. Keeping it on to let it burn off sounds like a better idea, though if there's as much as you say there is you might want to manually remove some of the plastic.

i'd put a mask on and hit it with a propane torch if solvents/gasoline wont remove it

Breathing carbon monoxide is definitely the way to go

I got a cone wedged between the body and the cat, and the heat melted it in place before I could yank it out. Produced a wonderful smell driving home...

Brake cleaner works wonders for dissolving plastic. Consider trying that, but be very careful about the fumes produced if any remaining cleaner is left on the exhaust, so clean it off with lots of water afterward, and don't drive the car until everything has dried.

didn't have time to do any sort of removing. i drove a good few hours today kept hte windows down and tried ot be on the freeway as much as possible and over 4k rpm =\ ears going numb

the burning smell seemed to have lessened slightly... i hope those mad vtaks and high compression raped the plastic lol.

wont have time to check tomorrow either =\

A plastic bag is typically polyethylene. It would be simple to remove with a propane or MAPP gas torch. You also learned that it will burn off on its own over time.

Those of you who suggested solvents to remove polyethylene do not understand chemistry very well.
