Painting Side of Robot?
I want to paint the side of the rotors from which the wheel studs extrude black so that when I put my wheels over it you dont see the nasty rust color. Do I have to use high temp paint for this?
And if so, high temp paint needs like 350 degrees to cure (or something in that range), would I just stick the rotors in the oven?

someone replace robot with rotor, i dont know what i was thinking

you could always use VHT high-temp paint. it's like $7 a can and it holds up really well. plus, you can just spray it on and not worry about baking them or whatever.

I actually did this when I bought new brake rotors. Before installing them, I masked the swept area and sprayed the hats with 1500 deg. ceramic black paint. Then I stuck them in my oven for an hour at about 400 degrees. When they came out, the black finish was VERY hard and durable. It did sorta stink up my apartment, I had to open the window and turn on a fan while they were baking.
This is how it looks:

I did that to mine with off the shelf high temp gloss black engine paint, but the stuff has slowly been coming off. I didn't try baking it on, but it still looks better than rusting rotors.
The fronts don't really look painted any more because Hawk HP+ brake dust is corrosive and eats the finish off the paint.

Re: Painting Side of RoboR? (delinquent)
I have some of this stuff in my garage,
I haven't used it yet. I'll apply it when I get new rotors so I can't really say how good it works. I've been happy with the other Eastwood products that I've used though.
Ordered online from http://www.eastwoodco.comMight want to edit your original post (spelling of Rotor).

I thought you were trying to paint an "autobots" logo/banner on your side fender like some cars here...
anyway when I clicked and read the message I figured you meant rotor but typed Robot..
I haven't attempted to paint the rotors.. but I bought some 1500 degree high temp flat black engine paint from autozone.. its supposed to withstand high heat and the can/logo has a motor on it... I think its made by duplicolor or plastikote.. not sure... I want to paint my Greddy Evo flat black so its not so bling bling/shiny and it doesn't catch the attention of cops as much.... I've been lazy to put my car on stands.. take off the muffler portion, and paint it though.. I bought the paint though.. I'll get to it sometime Lolz... anyway the flat black high temp 1500 degree paint was like $5 or so.. I forget..

i need to get my *** to autozone to do this... I think ill be too lazy to do the rear ones since the front rotors are sitting next to my bed not and thus ill have 0 down time...

haha bro too bad you don't live in CA or I'd let you use the can I bought in my garage.. cuz w/ winter and rain coming up.. I think I'm going to start lagging on my painting my exhaust flat black project until next summer... so the can I bought will be there until I decide to drop my exhaust and paint it Lolz

Re: Painting Side of Robot? (GSRaCeRbOI)
I was amazed last night...
I told my dad that i wanted to paint my rotors, and he's like good idea (which is amazing since he thinks all the **** i do to my car is pointless). By the time i got back from class which was around 8:30'ish he bought me a can of some high temp paint, althought the stuff he bought was meant for grills (from home depot), its the thought that counts

yep that'll work, i used that on my valve cover. Just make sure you also use a high temp clear coat or the brake dust and dirt will absorb into the paint

on the other hand, this is what he bought (in spray paint kind), theoretically it should work, right?
-heat shields
-exhaust
-brake calipers/rotors
-valve covers
-wheels
It's pretty durable stuff!
