One GSR slower than the other.

One GSR slower than the other.
I've had a 96 GSR for over a year now. When I got the car it was stock except for the exhaust. No clue what type of system it is, but it is stainless from the cat back.
I picked up a 97 GSR the other day to be a full time race car. Its in much better condition and has similar miles. It is 100% stock, including the exhaust system.
The 96 seems to be quicker than the 97, so would some crappy exhaust system make that much of a difference?

Re: One GSR slower than the other.
"Seems quicker"?
Either take both cars to a drag strip and find out, or ignore any variance in the butt dyno.
Variance in age, running state, oil weight, cat substrate condition, carbon buildup, injector condition, etc..., etc..., and no two cars of the same model will ever perform exactly the same, much less 2 cars from different years.
Odds are, it wasn't any quicker at all, but the additional noise from the exhaust made you think it was.
