ok, here goes....
first of all, i'd like to thank u guys for your help a couple months back. but now i got a few more questions u guys gotta answer. im pickin up the 91 ls i've saved for all summer . it needs a new tranny. synchro is worn on 3rd, and it grinds like coffee. rather than stickin another 91ls tranny, i'm thinkin maybe a tranni from another b series motor....any ideas? will it bolt right up? mods? also, in the morning when it's cold, the revs bounce slowly from 900-1900....what up with that? and with a minumum wage paying job, what mods do u feel i would benefit most from with my budget? most bang for the buck is what i'm trying to say i guess. thanks guys

My friend has a 99 Civic hatch and i love the gear ratios in his car. He can do 80 in second gear ( i think). Anyway, im not sure of the tranny or engine code, but its a non vtec 1.6L. Im sure if you put that tranny in a car with more power to take advantage of the longer gears, it would be a blast to drive.
Plus its only reving to like 3000 when going 80mph.

nope... wont work. d-series will not bolt up to b-series.
the b16 tranny is a great addition to the LS motor, however you dont get much top speed

I would recommend an S1, J1, or Y1 (LSD tranny) cable tranny. Hydro-transmissions won't bolt up very easily...i.e. you need a mount kit from Place Racing, and the Hasport hydro shifter thingy...forget what it's called. I drive a gen 2, so I researched what it would take to put a hydro tranny in my car. I am soon to have an S1 in my g2, but I have a b16 now.
If your revs bounce like that, you may want to check your O2 sensor or your vacuum lines. I have heard of this problem being solved by fixing one or both of the above 2 things.
As far as motor mods...Get a shorter geared cable tranny, or just get a whole obd-0 b16a engine swap. They run around $1600 shipped and bolt right in, with just a few wires (I think 4) for VTEC and the knock sensor (something else as well). Also, look at a JDM or USDM GSR long block, they run around $2k plus shipping. If you want to keep you motor...i/h/e and other small bolt ons will give you good gains. A well driven B16A g2 however will be a tough run for a B18A g2 with bolt on's...that is my opinion though. Good luck!!!

what is he going to do w/ a longblock. Did you mean a longblock w/ the b16 tranny?
or can you actually just drop in the longblock, and use a worthless b18a tranny w/ vtec engine?
I'm still kinda new w/ this.

Believe it or not, some people drop in just the long block and use the LS tranny. Some do it because they are going to boost down the road. Others do it just to get some extra power and 'plan' on putting in a better tranny later. I don't think running an LS tranny is a good way to enjoy your VTEC .

Re: ok, here goes.... (HONDA_TYPE_R)
that's what i'm saying! i always tell my buddies why you goin with the ls tranny for? but they just don't get it. then they complain when they're slow. haha. n e ways......it would take a lot of work to upgrade to let's for say a 94-up teggy tranny cuz they are hydraulic and your's is lower than a 94 so it's a cable. and with your "budget" as you say, you would have to save up some good cash to get it done right. and by the way how much did you get the car for?
as for upgrades....basic bolt ons will be all over the place. you won't have to buy brand new stuff if you don't want to.

as for the motor though, plan to keep ls block, b16a head. i keep hearing ls block is good for torque over the b16. tell me more, i wanna know.

The S1, J1, and Y1 came from the Japanese CRX SI-R as well as the Integra RSI and XSI. They are fairly abundant and can usually be had for around $300 (I bought my S1 for that much), with the exception of the Y1. The Y1 goes for around $500 in good shape because it has the LSD. I think you can go to http://www.hondaswap.com and find a table of all the gear ratios that these trannies have. They all have a 4.44 final drive.
As far as the LS block goes. Yes it has more torque than a B16, but with age, wear and tear, that torque will diminsh. I would imagine my 95 vintage B16 has more torque than my tired old LS motor with 170k on the ticker. Now after a little freshening in the form of some CTR pistons (OverSize for more displacement), freshened bearings...maybe some rods, and a B16 head thrown into the mix, you will have a decent LS/VTEC setup. Some people opt to have the piston oil squirters installed from the VTEC motors (non-vtec motors do not have these), others do not. I am sure these aid in cooling of the pistons, but most people seem to get by fine without them. If you want the most reliablility out of this setup, you will get the block sleeved, but from what I understand, that runs about $1k or more. I would also advise you get the oil line kit from Golden Eagle. I have never built an LS/VTEC motor, but I believe this goes in the oil pan??? ...someone correct me if I am wrong though.
2nd gens never had an LSD tranny...sorry. Overseas in Japan they did on some cars though (2nd gen). Good luck on the buildup.
