Oil & gas

Oil & gas
I have a 2000 GSR with 177k miles on it. I just got it and want to use the best stuff. I currently use Castrol full synthetic with a k&n filter and 93 octane from shell. What do you guys recommend and what do you guys use in your cars? Experiences. Etc. If there is already another thread about this please link me to it. When I do find threads they are talking about newer GSRs. I want to know what works best for these cars now that they are older.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Oil & gas
i use castrol full synthetic 5w-30, with Mobile 1 filter only for the fact that i work at a BMW dealership and i get discounted. also, i pump 91 oct from chevron only.
but a lot of people will tell you that mobile 1 full synthetic is perfectly fine because thats what factory uses. nothing is better than OEM.
f.y.i your GSR is the newest one. above that would be a RSX. so your prolly in the right thread. all in all its all the same, 1994-2001 integras. i have a 1994 GSR.

My understanding is Shell, Exxon/Mobile, and Chevron are the quality brands in the US. Shell is supposedly nice to older (pre-ethanol) cars, like you I use their 93 octane.

Re: Oil & gas
A newer gsr can still be more abused than a older one. 5-30 is recommended, but I live in hawaii and its hot year round, so i use 40 weight oil, plus I find it slows down my oil pan leak, just search on oil weights in google, you gon learn today

Re: Oil & gas
Unfortunately I don't have many gas stations around here. All I have here is speedway, shell, sunoco, and bp. Shell is my best option. I also chose to use 10w-30 for the summer but before winter I think I will switch to 5w-30.

Re: Oil & gas
btw, using 5w-30 or 10w-30 doesn't matter if you don't live somewhere that gets below freezing. Above 32F, 5w-30 and 10w-30 are the exact same oil viscosity. Below 32F, it 5w-30 behaves like 5 weight oil cooled below 32f, and 10w-30 behaves like 10 weight oil cooled below 32f (compared to how thick 30 weight oil would be below 32F)
I live in arizona, so during the heat of summer I switch to 10w-40, and when it cools back down I go back to 10w-30
I used to run straight 50 weight VR-1 in my old Z car, all year round. Old sucker loved the stuff too.
KnN air filters I guess are ok, just NEVER EVER EVER use a fram oil filter. Use a WIX filter. Those suckers are awesome.
The nearby Oriellys auto actually went so far as to take a Frame filter, and its equivilant Wix filter, and CUT THEM OPEN, just so customers can see how shitty the fram filters are (Despite them almost exclusivly stocking fram air and oil filters on their air/oil filter aisle lmao)
The wix and napa filters are on the right (imo the best designed out of those shown in this picture)
