Need advice (Experienced Mechanics Apply Please)
I just bought a 1994 GSR with 2nd gear grinding a bit, now it grinds all the time. When I go slow or fast it gives a little grind when I throw it in. All the other gears work great. My question: Can I just rebuild 2nd gear(if possible), or get a whole new tranny? Thanks for any advice given. Peace.

Re: Need advice (Drian)
You can just replace the synchronizer pack and gear separately as needed.
It might also be a clutch issue if it's not fully disengaging. Not likely the case if just the one gear is giving you problems and it's not extremely hard to get the shifter into gear without forcing it a bit.

Try using Synchromesh in the tranny and see if it clears up a bit. Also note that a non-fully-disengaging clutch is a good possibility, I've had it happen before.

Hmmm interesting. Yeah. all the other gears work great, just second gear grinds. Once in awhile I could throw it in, but it has to be a perfect shift you know?

haha
so true, its been getting to me recently too
but I know what I'm talking about, I have done transmission internals, it def sounds like a syncro issue, being that its only in one gear, if you can do the work yourself, you can save a butt load of money

Re: Need advice (Drian)
it defently sounds like your 2nd gear syncro. You can just replace that part, but it depends how mechanicly inclined you are. Rebuilding a tranny isn't the easiest think to do. Also you might be able to pick up a used tranny from somewhere for under $500.

that may keep the order of the parts
but they also have to mesh in a certain way, if they are rotated and reinstalled wrong, you will mess it up

wow who you using for labor?
next time i need a tranny done, this is easier than doing it myself
drop the tranny , open, fix, and reinstall for $100
thats unheard of

man i won't even look at doing someone's clutch for less than $200, and def wouldn't drop the trans and install internals for less....you guys got some cheap *** mechanics

Do you even know the purpose of double clutching? Someone's been watching a little too much Fast and the Furious. It has to be the second gear synchro, if it was the clutch it should do it in more than one gear. Transmissions aren't as scary as everyone makes them out to be. Check this thread out, click here. You might have to register to see it, but you should already be a member of TI if you have an integra.

Try this: https://honda-tech.com/zero...49469
My 5th gear is doing the exact same thing. Tomorrow I'm picking up 3 bottles and crossing my fingers that it fixes my problem.

Re: (Xymox007)
well im not sure if its a clutch problem , cause if it was then it would do it in other gears as well
but i would personally just buy a sychro set since it u replace one of them, its easier to replace them all at once and it saves u money in the long run
oh and if your doing it yourself, get a HELMS

do you know the purpose of double clutching? i dont have a teg myself so i'm not registered at that board. however i can say that if you have a grinding gear due to a worn synchro, you can double clutch and have the problem disappear COMPLETELY. i know from first hand experience, as well as others. dont get me wrong, double clutching doesnt make you go faster (it will usually slow you down due to the slight delay).
also i agree with the synchromesh people talking - that stuff works
