Default My first impression of the RSX-S

Well, after going to the local Target this morning, I decided to stop at nearby Go Acura/Audi/Porsche/Nissan/Subaru (whew! deep breath) this morning to see if they had any RSX's in. Just for grins. Lo and behold, two RSX's and one RSX-S, in Desert Silver Metallic with 68 miles on it.
It turned out that the S was already sold, but they were keeping it onhand through the end of the 11th because it was the only one they had for their opening night party, and they needed something to demo. After talking with the sales guy for a bit, he offered me the keys. No way was I going to refuse.
First of all, I have to say, for everyone (including myself) who thought the RSX is ugly from pictures...the RSX doesn't photograph that well. You need to see it in person before you make up your mind. Walking around it, it not only looks better up close, but like a lot of the car, ends up growing on you.
The interior is pretty well thought out. It's the first sports-compact I've actually had to slide the seat forward an inch from rear position (I'm 6'4", 37" inseam) and it's very comfortable. Slightly more headroom, and good seats. Cupholders that work, and a nice climate control system. Some people don't like the white gauges, I didn't think I would until I drove the car, and found their contrast to be quite helpful
I took it out on the highway (It took me a bit to get around all the doggone Saturday grocery getters with their kids) and started fooling with the gearing. The six-speed is precise, works very well. You'll probably use 6th gear mostly to improve highway gas mileage though, it didn't strike me as anything performance-enhancing. The car is MUCH quieter than an Integra and the suspension is quite responsive (though without feeling oversprung), so getting a feel for your speed is not as easy. For all of you that hate (in principle at least) the Macpherson struts up front, I have to say, they worked great. Cornering is really good, less body roll, and they chose much better Michelin tires this time. The brakes are also really good, they stop quickly and solidly, with none of the ABS pulse feeling on the pedal that the GSR is known for.
I have only minor gripes about the car. The stereo speakers/amp were lackluster, and the type-S Bose subwoofer was ineffective, I couldn't even tell it was there (I brought along a CD I mixed to check it out), there was almost no bass at all. The console is also gone from between the front two seats, and I want it back, it was nice to hold things in, and rest my elbow on when I shifted.
I like the RSX-S, but I also like it because in going back to my GSR, it made me realize what I like about it too. For all die-hard Integra owners, try the RSX-S out...it'll probably grow on you.
