Default My DA won't start! NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!

Okay, so heres the story from the beginning.

One day, my car just stopped starting. The night before my car was driving great, no bogging or anything like that. The next morning I tried to start my car and it would just crank and not turn over. N

Generally when this happens, I can have the car jumped and it'll start up, and drive fine, unfortunately that didn't work this time.

A friend and I tried to pop the clutch and that wouldn't work either. So after some research I figured it was the main fuel relay (MFR). Replaced that with a brand new one from Acura, and that didn't do the trick.

This was about a week ago, I wasn't getting a spark at the time.

Soon after, I figured it was my distributor, I bought a used one on Honda-Tech, replaced it, and i'm still not getting a spark from what I can tell. I had the coil checked at Autozone, and the guy said its fine. It seems that my car is RIGHT on the edge of starting sometimes. The only time it can crank hard is when i'm getting jumped by another car.

If I try to crank without a jump right now, it drains my battery EXTREMELY fast. I figured this is because the car hasn't been driven for over a week.

I really need help guys, I can't figure this out. My next step is to spray some starting fluid in the throttle body and try cranking. I'm out of ideas and have NO idea what to do.

fuel pump priming? you can hear it if you listen closely.

if your battery has some age on it or it is a cheap battery turning the engine over for more than 5 sec at a time without allowing it to cool for a sufficient amount of time can weaken the battery cels thus causing the battery to weaken especially under a load I.E. cranking.


I suggest you start with the basics of the 4 stroke internal combustion engine. Check for the 4 basic principals that it takes to make a 4 stroke engine run.

1. check for spark. with the spark plugs in the engine put an inline spark tester between the spark plug and the plug wire. Go ahead and check all 4.

if you have spark on all four cyl's (chances are if you have spark on one you'll have spark on all four) go to step two

2. if you have spark check for fuel. First check that you have fuel pressure. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge (all ricers have a fuel pressure gauge so you really need one if you don't already have one) you can crack the fuel line between the fuel rail and fuel filter to check for pressure. Wear saftey glasses when you do this, if your getting fuel pressure when you crack the line you will see gas skeet out. This is good. Tighten the fuel line back down.

if your getting fuel pressure pull the fuel rail. leave all the injectors inside the fuel rail and plugged in. For this test i recomend you get something to skeet the fuel into. I use an old SBC valve cover. You can use rags for old Super Street magazines.

with the fuel rail off have someone turn the engine over (make sure your wearing saftey glasses) you should see fuel squirting out all four injectors but not at the same time.

if your getting fuel go on to step 3.

3. Compression. Do a compression test, you should get a good even number across all four cyls. for ex. 185, 180, 175, 185. if you get like 180,175, 120,175 you have some issues

come back to me with compression results.

now go to step four

4. Timing. the hardest test.

you can have the timing off in two places. The dizzy and the timing belt. I hope you marked where the old dizzy sat before you removed it. This allows you to the the dizzy back in the proper location or atleast a good starting point.

You'll need the car running and a timing light to fine tune her. Ricers like to play with the timing but I beleive in leaving a stk engine at the OEM mark but I cant remember if it's 12 or 14 deg TDC because i did drugs in highschool.

as for the timing belt I hope its not off. To check this you need to remove the uppper portion of the timing belt shield to check the timing marks on the cam gears in comparison to the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley.

CHECK FOR GROUNDS IN THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON THE VALVE COVER AND BY TRANSMISSION MOTOR MOUNT WE HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THAT AND PLUS THAT WOULD EXPLN THE CHARGING PROBLEMS ......

My grounds look fine.

As for fuel, I'll have to check that. I'm going to spray some starting fluid in the throttle body and see if that does anything

The spark tester I have clips into my wires. Do you think that'll do the trick in checking for a spark?

so long as one side of the spark tester is grounded and the other in a plug wire yes it's fine

yeahh like my car dont start but its because im getting a weak spark so i need a new dizzy but yeahh go see if you have spark.
