Default LS vtech or GSR

I have a 00 integra GSR and I have some questions. I personaly myself want to keep my gsr and build that but a freind of mine tells me to go LS vtech... does ls vtech have more torque? I need some good feedback.

I also need upgrades... anyone have a cold air system for 00 integra b18c1 I'm also looking for a header for b18c1

well first... it's VTEC not VTECH. VTECH is a phone. I would stick with the GSR. I have a lsvtec and they are alot of work. They tend to produce more torque, but not enough to destroy a perfectly good GSR. Plus the GSR is a fully balanced, Engineered motor with extensive design and thought put into it. The lsvtec is a Frank of sorts that requires balancing, and minor blueprinting. If you have about 3-5K dollars that you want to spend and enjoy continuous headaches, then try the lsvtec. Good luck.

i would keep your gsr motor and build a poormans type r. just search for it. basically its a b16 head(with work doen to it) and type r pistons. but if you are just now starting with bolt ons just find a good CAI with 3" piping and imo the best header out there is the jdm type r header. 2.5" collector and 4-1 design. do i/h/e first that will make the geezer more peppy

make your own decision. Search for good points and bad vs either build.

Only YOU can decide what's best for YOU.

To me it's like asking some stranger to name my child.

I wouldn't want anyone to pick my build.

if you're only going to put on bolt-ons the gsr motor is the better choice.

Stick with your gsr, if you don't want it, give it to me and I'll take care of it for you , as far as ls-"VTECH", it has a bit more torque, but reliability and longevity is an issue with ls-vtec's, its a topic thats been beated on daily. It all depends on the builder, mods beings used, the driver and most importantly the tune. If its your first time with ls-vtec's i suggest finding someone you know, take a ride in one or drive one, see how you like it, then compare the two motors, and see which one you like most, remember ls-vtec's wont pass smog, and can not be bar'd legal.

I have lots of respect for Ls-vtec and their potential, its not factory built nor factory type reliability if you get my drift. I've had a built ls-vtec, barely had 1200 miles on the entire motor and tranny, drove like charm, taken care of meticulously with maintenance, then surprisingly little problems were occuring, like small back fires, black smoke occurrences, rare occasions the car would jerk at low rpms at any gear and would randomly stop. At one time car felt like it hit a rev limiter at 6K rpm, prior to that car would rev perfectly fine to 8.2k. Those were small problems that occured randomly but often. Sometimes those problems are hard to diagnose.

I would go Ls V with some B16 pistons. How come people always spell Vtec like this (vtech)? Its on the valve cover isn't it?

What kind of plans do you have?
turbo? NA built? just bolt ons?

If you turbo it, just slap a turbo on.
NA, built a high compression lsvtec.
bolt ones, stick with the gsr, it wouldnt be worth doing the lsvtec, cuase you relaly should do internal work if you even mess with it.

Keep the GS-R. the extra displacement and bigger crank aren't worth all of the other crap you are going to run into.

Go LS/Vtec, u will get more torque with any ls block than a gsr, if both engines are similarly modded, and u get the horsepower of VTEC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Port and polish that gsr head and it will have more potential than the b16 head plus it has a more smaller dome so it will give you a compression boost. Like others said stick the type r pistons in. I have a type r bottom end with a gsr head. Makes great power .

Or you can just use the gsr the way it is and boost it. Forced induction

your car will STILL be 1.8 ******* liters. Only now, you got a **** rod ratio and no oil squirters. Yeah that increase of torque is gonna be something else man from 126 ft/lbs to 130 ft/lbs!!!! soooo worth it.

Why is lsvtec stupid?

if you have a GSR:

1. your motor is already better in every way

if you have an LS:

1. you have rip some b16 or gsr, hype r of its pistons

2. you have to "rig" the ****, since it wasnt suppose to be.

3. you still need a gsr or b16 tranny

last thing, lsvcrap is also a fickle POS. same builds, one can make 160 WHP stock, the other might match a SOHC VTEC. You dont know which one YOU built, until its time to run it.</TD></TR></TABLE>

blah blah blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ls vtec is sick when built right and tunned right. it dont matter on whp any more. my homies lsv that made 140whp in a dc2 smoked cars that were making like 280+whp, my dc2 wont even touch his car!!! oand ur # 3. who cares the tranny bolts right up. o and ur #2 they make conversion kits.

if you want to go through the trouble of LS-VTEC, why not just go CR-VTEC? wouldnt the B20 make even more torque than the B18B short block (in "stock" form)?

but I hear its mad headache for an LS-V. just stick with GSR. but if you're ballin...k20 =]

Don't go through the trouble of swapping your motor. Just boost it.

7-10lbs will be plenty of DD fun.

keep the gsr. you'll end up with troubles with ls-vtec. if you're gonna do ls-vtec, you better bust some *** in taking time and effort in building it because it WILL run into problems after a while. if you build it like crap, it wont last long. personally, i'd stay with the gsr. dont always listen to what friends say.

ls vtec is a gsr killer, but if you already have the gsr installed in your car save your self some money and time and keep the gsr..buy some ctr pistons , eagle rods that will lift your compression a bit so you can drop some cams in it with nice bolt ons..tune it up..and trust me you are going to make some power..
if you go ls vtec ..sell me your GSR block..

imo, lsv is the creme of the crop, but if u have gsr already, why buy milk, when u have the cow at home. build the gsr, let others who have the ls motors worry about that headache... like me
