LS vs. GTI VR6

LS vs. GTI VR6
A friend of mine wants to race me for some hefty cash and I am wondering how fast VR6's are? I have a '96 LS with I/H/E, cam gears, S-AFC and suspension. He has a 2001 GTI VR6 with I/E and suspension. Does that sound like a car that would kick my *** or could I run with him if not beat him?

Don't do it man...you'll lose. Besiede's, take it to the track.
I have 3 friends w/ vr6's..Two 2002's and they for some reason only run 15.9's and 16's. Now I have a friend who has a 1998 vr6 and it ran a 15.2 w/ a 2.6 60ft on 17's at Batte of the imports....That thing can move..He recently ran another 15.2 w/ a 2.2 60's on DR's ???? Strange....

Even if you had GS-R and not an ls I would advise against racing a GTI.
1) First of all I don't approve of street racing (not like you care what I approve of )
2) vr6 has good toque & HP and will smoke you in a straight line.
My recomendation... get good at autocrossing then take the challenge to an autocross course. There you with practice you can out drive them... earn your money!

Re: LS vs. GTI VR6 (redls94)
I raced a GTI VR6 a couple weeks ago. He smoked me in my ls. I'm not terribly slow either. I run a 15.7. Those VR6's will run 14's.
GTI VR6s run 15.1 on the quarter.
a gsr with i/h/e should beat it.
Sure they have lots of torque but
they are also heavy.
Close to 2900 lbs.

It doesn't matter how you stand by your car, it matters how you race your car. You better learn that.
VR6 will own you in power looks and handling

Yes, you will get beat. It is a faster car than the LS. One thing i must say though is that its not as fast as you all may think. I went to a VW dealership just to dick around and drive a few cars. And the VR6 did not impress me at all. I was expecting a really really really fast car, but it wasnt. But dont race, he will beat you.

Re: LS vs. GTI VR6 (OneFastLS)
my brother has a VR6 (i/chip/short shifter) and he runs 14.7-14.8. It all depends on the driver tho. Just last week there was a guy at sears point with a supercharged VR6 (puts out over 225hp) and he ran 15.4 and 15.1. If your friend is a decent driver, i wouldnt race him, you will lose.
Stock specs on a VR6
Base Number of Cylinders: 6
Base Engine Size: 2.8 liters
Base Engine Type: V6
Horsepower: 174hp @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 181ft-lbs. @ 3200 rpm
