Re: (BDBGoalie1982)
I'm waiting to see pics and a writeup.. i was considering going this route since my car is just sitting in the garage.. Not to mention, i think the LED lighting is alot nicer than the traditional bulb lighting.. just look at the cadillacs.. very nice..

I was looking to buy another taillight or pair of taillight since mine were leaking, but I got mine fixed and wasn't going to buy any, but now I might do it afterall so I have a spare set to cut up and put some LED boards in.
Anybody see those LED boards w/ a pigtail and 1156/7 base on superbrightleds.com?

Alright folks here are my comparison pics from last night, all pics are showing the 24-LED 360-deg. wide angle white LED bulbs.
LED on left, incandesent on right
Taillights:
Brake lights:
Incandescent on left, LED on right
Parking lights:
Turn signals:
Parking lights and turn signals together:
^^^ Notice that when the parking lights are on, you really can't tell the difference when the turn signal is on or not.
The bulb by itself, lit up:

Thanks for taking the time to order 'em and take pics and such, at least we know what the final verdict is with these.
What happened to your bumper?

Re: (PatrickGSR94)
Got home late tonite so just write up, pics tommorow
PICS TOMMOROW
WARNING THIS IS A PERMANT MODIFICATION!
YOU WILL NOT WIN AN COSMETIC AWARDS FOR THE INTERIOR OF THE HOUSING AFTER THIS
Tools:
Dremel or cut-off tool
File
Wire cutters and strippers
Hot melt glue gun (or any style of securing and sealing the board)
Sockets (8,10,12,14 - i think just use 10, but not sure) and screw drivers
Materials:
(2) 60 LED Tail lamp assemblies from semi truck - I will post link towworow - $20 a piece
Steps:
1.) Remove tail lamp housing. I belive that all the nuts are accessable just by removing the two access panels, if someone could look on their car and check that would be nice, mine's stripped.
2.) Using the dremel, open the LED housings and retrive board. Use care in cutting off the top of the housing so you don't damage the board. (4) phillips head screws hold the board in place. A good tug will separate the wires from the socket. This is a good time to test the LEDs. They can run of a simple 9v battery to make life easy. Test both the parking lights and the brake lights.
3.) Using the board as a template, mark where you will have to cut the housing. you will want the board to rest on its corners only the rest goes into the housing.
4.) Cut 1/8" inside your marks to make sure you have enough material left over, much eaiser to make it bigger than to fill gaps. This will be a weird cut due to the convex shape of the housing.
5.) Using the dremel or a file, clean up the edges and try a test fit. It should be slightly tight, but not overly. Do not force the board in. You may have to try an angled approach to get the bottom in and then the top.
6.)Test the fitted LED in the housing and check to make sure it still works, and you can clearly see the color change between park and brake. Ensure that the wires are avalible for wiring.
7.) Ok, now the fun part. With you board sitting in their nicly you will have a semi-circular gap on top and bottom. These must be filled in order to keep water out. I reccomend using the dremel to cut the material you just removed from the tail light into pieces that fit nicley into the gaps.
8.) Once you are satisfied with the gap-filler plates (they do not have to be perfect), warm up the glue gun.
9.) Begin gluing with a small bead at each corner to lock the board in place. Then slowly run a bead along the egdes before you put the filler plates in. You will have to angle the housing so glue does not drip onto the reflector.
10.) Once the board is in snug, begin gluing in the filler plates, again with small slow ammounts of glue, and care not to get the glue in the housing.
11.) Now you will have a few small holes to fill to make it airtight. Using a liberal ammount of glue (kinda like welding) form a pool and allow it to drip into the sports that need to be filled.
12.) Check over your finished product to ensure their are no holes to allow water in. If you are feeling paranoid you could glue the entire back of the board to ensure waterproofing. I run a stripped rear end with the exposed baords and have had no problems.
13.)Now the wiring. Take the old 1157 bulb socket and cut it off the housing harness. Using these three wires, wire up your LED board.
14.) Replace the housing back into the car, and plug in the harness. Test both the parking light and brakes, as well as the turn signals.
15.) Bolt everything down and re-assemble the interior and your done.
Any questions please post here or PM me. Please try to post hear so everone can benefit from the answer.
I have two remaining LED tail lamps that i could sell if someone is intrested. Or if someone wanted to buy the LEDs, and send me their housings, i could install them, at a cost. This would also enable me to get pictures of each step. Since i have no extra housings, i will only be able to post up finished pics. If someone is intrested in the LED speak up quickly or i will use them to demostrate how to retrieve the board. Of course i could also just sell the removed board as well.

You don't want the taillights to be brighter than stock, because then it will look like you're standing on the brakes all the time while you're driving around, which really wierds out some people, I know it does me.

Re: (PatrickGSR94)
I have had the same old type of LED brake light bulbs for 4+ years in two different cars, But in your picture I circled the left one and to make sure... that's the LED?
I wish I had a pic to compare mine and yours but yours looks more pink and less bright then the ones I Have.... And mine are dull

Yes that was the LED bulb. I used a white LED bulb, and not a red LED bulb, because the white ones are rated to be brighter than the red or amber ones so I thought it might be better.
I should have put one of my friend's red LED 1157's in one side and my white LED 1157 in the other side and taken a pic, but I didn't think about it.

Re: (PatrickGSR94)
i have to order a couple 1156's for my Shift light and other crap tonight so that i get them by this weekend....
I"m ordering the Red 1156 19 Wide-angle... for the hell of it i'll tap then into the 1157 hole and put them in my Altezzas and see how they look.
and if they actually do look good with the altezzas then i'm just out $5 for shipping on another shipment from them.
we'll see how that goes.
and hey BDBGoalie1982
i see there Semi tail lights... where did you buy them from? a truck stop? or on-line or what?
