just did some calculations

just did some calculations
so far i have bought
-base s200 hondata
-virgin p28 ecu
-obd2-1 harness
-skunk2 cam gears
now i just did some pricing and heres what i came up with
-skunk2 cams
-skunk2 valvesprings
-skunk2 im
-hondata gasket
-comptech intake/ice box
-install and tuning
-misc.
$2300
So my question is. WHY DONT I JUST TURBO THIS THING AND CALL IT A DAY?
so far i have i/h/cat/e plus the items that i listed above.
i mean its not to late for me to turbo, i can sell my intake and header n/p, 2.5" cat should be usable right? I can add the boost option to the hondata pretty easily.
heck i can even go the JRSC route right?
iv got 2 roads ahead of me, and one goes pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
thanks in advance

lol, I realized this before I bought my 2 gsr's. When you calculate the NA junky stuff, it comes out to the same as even a weak *** greddy kit. AND a weak *** greddy kit will put out more power than most NA setups! Girls love turbos, everyone loves front mounts, who the hell doesnt love blow offs, and omg, the orgasmic sound of turbo spool : P * * * * * * * * * !!!
Plus a greddy kit is more expensive than a ***** out power kit like a drag or rev hard. Sell your I/H and get a turbo. Youve come to realization
The only bad thing about boost is that it is like CRACK! Its addicting, and trust me, you will keep wanting to turn up the boost, no matter what! I started off 2 years ago with a stock *** motor and only planned to do minor things with my setup, and keep it really simple. Now Im aiming for 400whp in the next couple of weeks

Re: just did some calculations (kendogg)
when i calculated everything in my head, everything felt like it would work out great, then i put it down on paper and was like uhhhhhhhh "im speding all this for 175whp"
i could get a turbo kit for a couple more hundred bux and hit 225whp easy.
hmmmmmmmmm, i really dont know what to do now.
maybe ill get into road racing, since thats 90% driver.....

Re: just did some calculations (Commodore)
if you're looking for just sheer hp and torque numbers or low 1/4 times, then boost will get you there. but with greater boost comes greater responsibility..you'll still have to upgrade your internals.
i think you're doing just fine with the n/a route..if you don't care about the numbers, you can have a quick and fun daily driver. maybe look into getting an r tranny. you have a gsr and it's no n/a slouch if you know how to do it right. gotta love the high revvin all motor madness.

install and tuning isnt another $800 unless you get raped by the shop on install. If you were local I could install that kit in a day in exchange for lunch or a fraction of the cost a shop charges. Tuning only requires about 2 hours for a street setup, so thats about $300.

Geez I want to live in SoCal.
(well, then I think about your emissions...and 91 octane...and I feel better)

ok so maybe not 800, but $2800(turbo kit)+$500(hondata)+tuning=$3600(cost of going n/a)

Re: just did some calculations (bunmango)
Go for turbo.
I've only added a DIY icebox intake for my engine. Everything else has not been power.
I figured adding an full exaust, and headers will give me minimal gains, yet cost a large fraction of the turbo kit.
Hell, go with the turbo, every turbo car I've driven has been fun, even a sohc d16yz civic boosting at 8lbs was running low 14's.

Re: just did some calculations (B18CYAAA)
I know the position your in I just went through the same and ended up going NA heres a rundown of my costs.
JDM ITR pistons and rings $265
Skunk2 stage 1's and skunk2 cam gears $750
Skunk2 valve springs and retainers $330
Skunk2 intake manifold (used) $200
ITR thorottle body (used) $125
hondata s200 $245
new bearings, water pump, oil pump, top end gasket kit, oil pan gasket, timing belt $550
machine work for block to bore .25 over $unknown is getting done as I type
That added up is $2465 (prob some other things im forgetting) but anyways that is about the same price I could get a good turbo kit for. I decided to go NA for a few reasons one is this is a jdm GSR motor that I just got and havnt even put in the car yet the the conditon the motor is in is unknown to me and this way my $2500 will get me basically a new motor in excellent shape. And the other reason and the most important reason is I know a good turbo kit on 7lbs would put out more HP than my NA setup and be very reliable but I wasnt happy with a stock GSR motor cause I know how much potential it has so why would I be happy running a turbo kit on 7lbs when theres so much more potential there? So I know I would have ended up running more boost and pushing it until it finally blew and then sleeved the block and forged pistons, rods $$$$$ etc... Just my 2cents and why I choose to go NA.
