Interchangeable as to bolting them on, But not having them work when Bolted on.
Splines are smaller on the older transmissions, plus them being cable.

yes a CABLE gsr tranny will work, but you will need a differant clutch.
NO a hydro GSR tranny wont work unless you get a new clutch and cable to hydro conversion.

Re: INTEGRA transmission swap (tegda)
if its a newer GSR tranny you will need the cable/hydro conversion kit in order to use it. It's really not use it. Just stick to the cable tranny.
Get a short geared cable tranny, they are fun

Re: INTEGRA transmission swap (morocco)
If you are talking about both trans being 94-01, then yes. It is also important to note that the gear-sets, carriers, and other internals of the 94-01 hydro clutch operated trans <U>"can"</U> be swapped into any of the 92-93 YS1 cable clutch operated trans with some minor case modifications.
The confusion comes in when people think all trans from 90-93 are interchangeable. They are not.
90-91 has a smaller spline shaft than the 92-01 (as previously mentioned), so the clutch disk is different for those 2 years. All 90-01 5sp trans "can" share the same flywheels, and pressure plates, but not TO bearings and clutch disks.
If the OP has an original trans in his 90', he will need the GS-R trans (any year), a new clutch and TO bearing to match the operation of the clutch fork, highly suggest a new pilot bearing, a hydro to cable conversion IF the trans is 94'-01' (or install all the parts from a G3 to convert to hydro clutch), and resurface/replace the flywheel.
