Did you install the thermostat correct?

Seems like the thermostat is not opening.

Check the thermo again and try bleeding the radiator again with the rad. cap off and just let the air come out.

You need to bleed the coolant correctly.

Also, new thermostats could be bad as well. When your car is warm, check your bottom hose to see if it's hot.

I have been hunting a cooling issue as well for about 6 months now.
it only happens when it is really hot outside if I am stuck in traffic.
I even rebuilt my engine about 2 months ago and I still have the same issue,
I have replaced the radiator, cap, and I have a 170* thermostat and I still have issues with temps. I think I am going to build a shroud for the radiator to see if it helps since my issue is only when I get stuck in really bad traffic in the summer. I can let the car idle all night long and it will not overheat but in the day time its like it heatsoaks and it just wont cool. IDK

Kody,

Did you flush the block and the radiator? The radiator is a parallel flow, meaning the coolant flows through several parallel channels. When you try to flush it, it merely follows the path of least resistance, so you're not really flushing anything. You might find some real caustic cleaners, but risk damaging the thin aluminum. Best bet is replacing the radiator.

Alex,

You're going to want to change the t-stat back to the factory temperature. Once it opens and runs long enough, it's at the same temperature as with the factory t-stat. You're only delaying when the engine reaches proper operating temperature.

Does it have A/C and is it overheating with the A/C on? Are both fans coming on? Is the factory shroud still intact?
