Alot of the coils that i've changed out at the shop you can see where it shorts to the housing. The housing is all black and it's kind of hard to describe but if you saw it you'd know it right away. Discoloration of a roundish area on either side of it.
To take it apart, take the cap off(leave your wires on).
make a reference mark on the top distributor housing mounting point,dist.and bolt(makes it easier to put it back on)
You'll have a screw holding your rotor on, take that out, don't loose it. There's a black cover that shields the coil,ignitor,wires, take that out. and the coil is the big black piece.
Take a before picture with a pic phone or digital camera for ref.
I believe it's like 2 or bolts holding it in and some wires on it. Take those out, lift it up and look it over.
All the ones that have gone up at the shop have a clear short to the case. So i'm assuming if your's is bad it'll have the same short on the case.
