Default I GOT 50 MILES TO MY TANK INSTANTLY!! READ!!

so for a while now, i have been really frustrated with my gas situation... i have been needing to get gas after about 220-230 miles after my last full tank... and its been like that for months! about 80% of my driving is on the highway and still the bad mileage! i ALWAYS research and read up on ways to make my make my gas mileage go up on this site like by getting an oil change, changing spark plugs and wires, stop driving in high rpms, etc... well i never drive in high rpms (the most abuse i give my car are the rare times it reaches 4000 haha) and its very well maintained... and what frustrated me more is how i always hear people saying they get like 320+ miles on a full tank!! im like man what am i doing wrong! oh yeah i drive a 99 ls by the way with 91000 miles on it, forgot to put that in there... bone stock except for a k&n air filter and apexi exhaust (not sure if those are mods lol)

AND NOW IM GETTING 270-280 MILES!! last week when i filled it up, i was able to go for about 260 miles with the needle still a few millimeters away from the E and this week ive gone for 280 miles on a full tank!

so what did i do? the most simplest thing in the world! i checked my freakin tire pressure!! i had read about it before but i was like "what the hell that doesnt make sense" and just brushed it off lol... so one day im sitting in my car bored as hell and i think to myself... what the hell lemme go check my tire pressure... i got nothing to lose... so some were 28-29 and some where 30ish... so i put air in all of them and evened it all out 31 psi... and TADA!!!

ive been getting great mileage ever since!! i cudnt believe how much of a difference it made. thats like what? a 20% difference? yeah i just wanted to share this with those of you getting bad gas mileage like i was... hopefully, if you are, the solution is right there in your tires. i guess this is just one of those "basics first" times... heheh hope this helps!

i did a research paper in college regarding fuel economy....... one of the stats stated something like 1-2million gallons of gas are wasted a day due to wrong tire pressure......

if everyone stayed on top of this stuff, along with changing oil, filters, o2 senors, plugs, cap, rotor......... gas prices would go way down.......... but everyone likes to blame it on other people like the presidency, like its their fault most of america are lazy pigs.......

sorry for the rant........ lol

Ill try it but i highly doubt tire pressure can increase fuel mileage.....I get 350 miles average +/- 20 miles with 11.5 gallon on 87 octane(drive my **** til the gas light shows up)....on my gsr with over 210k miles.....havent done tune up for the past 2years maybe more...besides oil/filter change.... the thing is that when i do care for my car...***** messes up....now im at a point where i dont care about my car and everything works perfectly....no knocks, starts up everytime, no bogs, good gas mileage....funny how thing works.....

well, don't doubt because it's been proven. incorrect tire pressure can increase rolling resistance which in turn will eat up gas.

well, its true. tires are in fact moving in the wrong direction for positive effects on gas mileage. they used to be hard and have a thin section width, not good for traction but great for mileage. now they are getting wider and softer, technically bad for gas mileage. many a mechanic are confused about car trends.

Ok. Why are you using 87 octane in your gsr? when you do this. do you just stay outta vtec? that way it doesnt ping or knock?

why am i using 87 rather then 93? Im barely making enough to cover all my bills....sure its only couple cents more but i dont have the funds to pay for 93 octane when I feel the car drives the same..doesnt knock or anything.....i dont even go into vtec range....trust me i "used" baby my car all the time....feed the good stuff only, mobil 1 oil with mobil1 filter(now using "supertech fully synthetic oil from wal mart-$12-5qt), 93 octane only...but it comes to a point where i could careless bout my car.....its old and high mileage.....i dont care much about it.....as long as it gets me from point a to b.....hopefully

If you're only getting 220-230 miles to a tank, the easiest way to get an extra 50 miles per tank is by waiting until you're at 270-280 before filling it up. Sure, you'll put in a couple more gallons, and your miles per gallon won't change, but you'll get more miles per tank.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by lsturbojk &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">last week when i filled it up, i was able to go for about 260 miles with the needle still a few centimeters away from the E and this week ive gone for 280 miles on a full tank!</TD></TR></TABLE>

When the needle on my gas gauge is a few centimeters away from the E, it's full. (Perhaps you meant millimeters? )

Don't put 87 octane into a GS-R. When you use regular gas, it hurts performance - not just acceleration, but also gas mileage. Those few cents you think you're saving, are being spent (and more) in slightly poorer mileage.

hahahahaha woops! i was thinking millimeters and put centimeters hahahaha! good eye! i was laughing when i read that (cuz im a "self proclaimed math wiz" lol)... anyways, yeah i cud just wait until ive driven 280 miles, but then my mpg would still be the same... before, i was driving about 25.6 mpg (after careful calculations) all highway... im not sure what my mpg is yet rite now though, but im guesstimating around 28s.

why do you put 87 octane in gsr? it says in the guage cluster, premium gas.
but seriously you guys get over 200mi/tank? last 3 times ive filled i havnt made it over 160mi. and thats barely any nascar driving. boooo my car

also remember that cars are getting bigger and heavier. Somethings gotta keep them on the road.

as for the tire pressure, I run 1-2 psi mroe then what is recommended on the driver-side door.

yeah its funny, but so true! i compared my car to my cuzins 98 civic that he just abused to death... everytime this guy drived, it was always as if he was in nascar or something... forreal! his car was a 4 door civic, nonvtec... only mods were intake and exhaust, but when he drove that thing it felt like a porshe or something!! when he drove in the highway, youd always see it in 4th gear, not 5th. and to see his rpms in the red zone was nothing new... he was always doing burnouts and crap... didnt care about doing the usual oil change maintenance stuff... and never would he have car problems!! that was a really fun car... too bad he sold it

and then here i am driving like a grandma, always shifting at 3000 and im the one always heading to the shop for another $200 repair! he would tell me "the more you abuse it, the longer itll last"... but den even though it sounds true, i just feel bad doing that to my baby...

i havent had anything go wrong with my car for the past 1 and a half months... hope it stays that way for a long while!! ::fingers crossed::

But that doesn't necessarily mean your car is getting bad mileage. How many gallons did you put in your car each time? If you only put 6 gallons in, you're fine.

Our bone stock '94 GS-R gets 24-26 miles per gallon in mixed driving around town (and 30-33 mpg on a long trip). Depending how low we let the gas gauge go, we might get 175 miles to a tank when we put 7 gallons in, and 275 gallons to a tank when we put 11 gallons in, but our mileage (miles per gallon) is pretty consistent.

40psi? that's a lil' too much. you might pop those suckers and dont the ride quality sucks *** at that pressure. don't you feel the little cracks and rocks on the road?

That is much greater than Honda's recommendation of 35 psi front and 33 psi rear.

The downsides of greater tire pressures are (a) harsher ride quality (worse comfort), (b) uneven tire wear (the tires wear faster in the middle of the tread than along both edges), resulting in shorter tread life for your tires, and (c) possibly exceeding the maximum pressure of the tire as the tires heat up from use, which can result in a tire failure.

I dont know if you ever changed this, but recently i changed my thermostat and flush +fill my radiator on my 187k miles 94 rs and now i'm getting 320 miles per tank. Before i changed it i was getting like 270 miles per tank. So theres 50 miles per tank.

be sure to check your tire pressure during the summer months as well as the winter months. As the tire heats up, the more the air expands. just a reminder

Yep, look at bicycle tires, especially racing bikes. Tall and skinny, with extremely high air pressure (100-120 psi).

I don't want to start a political debate here, but in reality the Middle East actually only supplies around 15% of our oil in the US. The rest of it comes from the US (texas, gulf coast), Canada, and Mexico.

However, you do have to wonder what's really going on when ExxonMobil posted a record profit last year, while gas prices have been relatively high.
