hot wiring an Integra, junk yard car no key. i want to see if the engine runs
Hello Integra forum, there's a totaled Integra 5speed in my local junkyard, the airbags are deployed and lots of the interior is already missing, the clutch shifter are still there but the dash and steering wheel are gone.
I want to try and start the engine to see if it turns over and runs. I need a new engine for my civic.
I know hotwiring a car seems bad but its in a junkyard and there's no other way to start it. I dont want to buy the engine without seeing if it runs or at least turns. I know there's other stuff i can do but i really wanna see it run before i buy it.

unscrew the ignition switch use a flat head screwdriver, stick it in the ignition switch and turn..should do the trick lol

Too many factors someone could have already hacked the harness or taken some component that would prevent it from starting. To the rest of the integra owners lets NOT tell this kid how to hotwire a car even if he says it at a junkyard *cough* some guys driveway *cough*. 99% of the time "hotwiring" a car is being used in an illegal way... all the yards I know keep the keys or at least pull the worth while swaps read the forum rules idc if put a "legit" story behind it.

i hardly ever see keys in a junkyard, to see if the engine isnt locked it's a simple wire to the starter with a jumper cable and a ground, and a wire to the starter solenoid, at least you'll be able to see if it's seized really bad noises etc. to prevent people from jumping on you in these threads, maby a picture of your self with the wrecked car in the yard would help. I dont think anyone who is really trying to steal the car is going to have to ask for help. Good chance the ecu is missing and other critical parts, plus the tank is likely drained, or the pump is full of varnish from sitting. They most likely drained out the oil, so not a good idea to start it anyway

thats why you carry a battery or a jump box, some of the yard here leave the batteries in, they pull the best ones and leave the crappy looking ones, I cant believe people jumped on him assuming he's a thief, he asked a legitimate question of anyone who was interested in an engine from the yard, I've turned engines over before buying them too, you can tell a lot by listening to it turn over if you know what sounds to watch out for

The oil is drained, but I can put oil in the engine yakno? The radiator isn't there, but there's a few other cars that do have their radiators, and those hoses are cheap. The battery is missing too but that's simple, I would bring a charged battery. As for gasoline I was thinking I could basically detach the line from the filter and hook it up to some sort of makeshift pump
I dont even think a key would help, the dashboard is missing along with the steering column. The key cylinder may not be there at all, I was busy doing other stuff, in the rain so I didnt spend much time looking at the car, just that its the first one that has a stick shift that IV seen there

Basically all I want to know is if I connect x wire to y wire or something like that. They're dangling there, I just dont know which ones to hot wire together. I'll go there and take a picture at some point.

Because then i don't get to see if the engine runs until i get it. Iv been there before buying a blacktop, and i had to pay the return shipping fee out of pocket. The second engine still runs today but its a PITA dealing with those people.
I would rather do it myself, but iv never tried this before so i asked for help. You're just a jerk Bswapped, its uncalled for.

Just because an engine runs doesn't mean it's good. As if your thread was legit. I'm guessing you're trolling hard judging from your "blinker fluid" thread.

Re: hot wiring an Integra, junk yard car no key. i want to see if the engine runs
i'd rather buy an engine that turns over and will idle and doesn't smoke, than buy one thats just sitting there doing nothin. What is wrong with these people? i asked about making a junk yard engine run, and fixing my blinker. Only 2 people helped and 2 more are being jerks. Like i said to bswapped, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything!

Re: hot wiring an Integra, junk yard car no key. i want to see if the engine runs
Well yeah that would tell me if its ceased, I could also test the leakage to tell me if the combustion chamber seals or not. I could take the head and oil pan off to check if the stuff inside is any good.
but none of that answers my question, does it run?

chances are since everything is missing, it's never going to start up and run at the yard, with an old carbed engine, yea you could rig a coil and put some gas in the carbs, but that doesnt work anymore, ecu has to function, injectors, sensors etc, and the wiring has to be intact. your best bet is to rig a battery to allow it to turn over, this will let you know that it's not locked, no clanging noises etc, this will also allow you to run a compression check, that can give you a lot of information, you might need to squirt in a little oil to the cylinders, if they are really dry

Re: hot wiring an Integra, junk yard car no key. i want to see if the engine runs
I'll be stopping back by in maybe a week and ill check if the ecu is there and if the wiring is hacked up or still there. I'm starting to think you guys are right and its not worth it to make it run. I'm still gonna try though. I figure ill pull the fuel pump out of the tank to see if it looks alright and if the gas smells terrible. Making a fuel cell just wouldn't be worth it lol.
if I have to ill just go off of the compression and leakdown tests, and if they're good ill probably take it. I wish my yard wasn't so half assed, people mentioned the yard keeping keys. Wow, I bet they actually know what's in their inventory too!
"do you have any Honda del sols? I need an engine from one"
"what's that?
"its like a civic but the trunk looks different and the top comes off, almost a convertible"
"oh, IV seen those before"
"you have one then?"
"I dont know, maybe. You should just come look"
