Default Help me beat the claims department at the company that shipped my 'teg

I had my 94 GS-R shipped from St. Louis to San Jose because I was relocating for a new job. When the car arrived the front bumper had 2 big paint chips and was loose. Also the truck driver told me that between him driving the car up on the transporter in Missouri and him trying to unload the car behind mine in Sacramento my 'Teg apparently died. When he tried to drive my car off the truck to get at the one behind it in Sacramento it would not start and in the process he wore the battery down trying to crank it.

The local dealer here diagnosed the starting problem after a week in the shop as being a sensor in the distributor. Now I have a $1000+ bill between the new battery (old one would not hold a charge), the diagnosis time, and the new distributor. The problem is that they cannot link the distributor problem to something specific the transporter may have done, however the mechanic told me, and it is my understanding too, that distributors normally don't go out just sitting on a truck. All I know is that the transporters received a perfectly good running car, then ???????, then car shows up with the hell beaten out of it and not starting. Is there something I can do that will help me convince the claims people that this is something for which they need to take responsibility?

Unless you had some kind of written contract with some kind of insurance or at least a verbal consent that u can link a name with you have no case. Transporting a car from point A to point B you had to of had to sign something right? In that contract that you made if it doesn't say anything about "not being responsible for damage or stolen property" than you could always take them to court and try to get some money for the car. Shitty situation, but unfortunatly its not sounding good on your end. Be sure to take pics!! and Keep reciepts. (and if you do decide to sue than don't fix anything!! just get quotes) Also did you notice the dents when the car first got dropped off or did you notice it later. I know with shipping companies they have a unofficial rule (meaning its not written or told to the customer but its in the rule book) that says all damages are automaticly void if the "problem" isn't notified when the truck and driver are still there. keep us posted on what happens.

my cousin had a mint condition prelude shipped from VA here...which i picked up and shipped to him in cali. When the car was shipped from here its mint, almost brand new, no scarches at all. When it got there the fogs were broke, headlights and large scraches all over...its 2 grand worth of damage. My cousin wrote them a letter telling them if they don't pay for it he is going to take them to court and also to some other place. They forked over the money and the car got fixed back to what it looked like when it was shipped from here. I signed a release paper stating the condition of the car when it was first shipped from here to there.

The work was contracted out through our company's relocation service. I was already in Cali when the car was picked up from my parents. I believe they were supposed to sign a release, but they said they were not given anything at the time of pickup. I think multiple companies handled the car between St. Louis and San Jose, but the company that took it overland was Northland Auto Transport, or something like that. Their driver said when he got the car the bumber was already chipped and loose, which he had noted on his paper work.
